Dear Judges:
My name is Katy Hutchison. For my senior project I have decided to make a
skateboarding video/photography portfolio. I chose this topic because I am very
interested in photography and videography. I also have a very deep interest in
skateboarding. I wanted to mesh my two interests into my senior project to learn more
about photography and skateboarding.
For my video, I wanted to capture the difficulty and entertainment of the sport of
skateboarding. I wrote my research paper on the entire history of skateboarding. With
my research, I learned a lot about the sport, how it originated, and how it has evolved. I
also learned different methods of photography and how to capture the right shot. I
overcame many obstacles while working on my project. Financing my project was
difficult because I had to buy the camera I would be using. I had a summer job that
eventually financed this. Also, I had many technology errors with my project.
Eventually, I figured out all of these issues and I was able to complete my project.
While doing this project, I learned a lot about photography and videography. I
also learned a lot about skateboarding. This project has made me realize that I have a
true passion for photography and making movies that I would like to pursue this as a
possible career.
I believe that the senior project is a good thing. The experiences I gained I will
remember for the rest of my life and hopefully I will pursue a career in photography.
