Dear Judges:
My name is Rebecca Dickinson. When beginning this project I wanted to find out if there
was a possibility of becoming a photojournalist. This is why for my Senior Project I
chose to create the Senior Slideshow. I have been interested in photography for four years
and it is one of my favorite hobbies. My goal for the slideshow is to create something that
every senior in the school can enjoy and help them reflect on their final high school year.
My product is the slideshow itself. This relates to my research paper on photography
because I had to take a lot of the pictures for the slideshow. The ones I did not take I
selected from the yearbook’s photo collection. One of the obstacles I overcame during the
project was getting everyone into the slideshow. Some people do not like having their
picture taken. Also, I had problems with placing music into the slideshow. iTunes music
would not upload into Movie Maker. I researched the problem online until I figured out
how to convert the iTunes songs into a format supported by Movie Maker. I believe that
the slideshow is a success because it incorporates all the seniors who wished to be
featured and it is something that everyone watching will enjoy.
The photography topic relates to the career of photojournalism. Photojournalists, like
journalists, tell a story on something that has a great impact on people’s lives, but mostly
through pictures instead of words. I have always found pictures more engaging than
paragraphs of words. This is why I decided to see how I would like being a
photojournalist. Throughout the course of the project I decided although I love
photography, I would rather continue with it as a hobby instead of as a profession. I may
join a photography club in college but I do not plan on majoring in it.
Through the course of the project I learned a great deal about myself and helped me make
improvements that will benefit me in college. Working on the year-long project helped
me learn to manage my time well. I was working on the slideshow as well as doing all
my other schoolwork for the year. I can now plan how to use my time on different tasks
in a more efficient manner. Thank you for your time.
