Alexis Smith chose physical fitness as her senior project topic because she struggled with being overweight in the past. She created a diet and fitness program called "Lifestyle Makeover" to help people with eating disorders and weight loss. Her research found that childhood trauma often leads to emotional eating and later eating disorders and obesity. Her project helped her decide to pursue a career as a consultant and speaker about organic diet and exercise programs to educate others on healthy living. Her program was successful in helping her and her family achieve a healthy lifestyle and weight.

Dear Judges:
My name is Alexis Smith, and I am a senior at Creekview High School. I chose physical fitness
for my Senior Project because I relate to this topic very well through my own experiences of
being overweight in the past. My goal for this project is to make a difference in the everyday life
of someone who has eating disorders or cannot lose weight. I want to be able to show people
how important it really is to eat healthy and stay fit throughout their lives. I am always trying to
help people in one way or another and this project will be perfect to educate them.
My product is a diet and fitness program called Lifestyle Makeover. This program is filled with
new lifestyle ideas such as what foods to eat, how much of these foods to eat in one sitting, and
how often to eat. My research paper consisted of research on childhood obesity and how it is
carried into later life issues. Generally, a child endures at least one traumatic life experience,
which is the cause of emotional eating. Childhood traumas are remembered throughout one’s
lifetime and causes over-eating which leads to eating disorders and obesity. My idea was to
create a program that connected to those with an eating disorder and to help them slowly lose
weight.
My topic and research helped me to find a career suitable for me.A consultant and speaker about
an organic diet and exercise program is a very good career choice for me, not only to show
people how to stay fit and help them achieve what they want, but also because this will make a
difference in everyday lives of individuals who need the help and determination to stay healthy.
Pursuing this career will teach me a lot about how important it is to stay positive and how to live
life the right way. Knowing what “good” and “bad” foods are has made a large impact on my
life, and I can only hope that someone will see what I mean when I say that I have never wanted
another cheeseburger from McDonalds. Learning what is in the foods I used to consume and how
at-risk my health was as young as I am now guides my choices. My product, Lifestyle Makeover,
teaches others to make these healthy choices.
My Senior Project was very successful in helping me achieve the desirable weight I wanted to be
at, along with optimum health. My family was very successful with this program as well, and
they now share the same healthy lifestyle that I do now. Thank you so much for your time to
