Letter of reference for Stein-Inge Torset Øien, CERN 2015
Stein Inge Torset Øien started as a C++ and LabVIEW developer in the
Measurement, Test and Analysis section of the Industrial Controls group of the EN
department at CERN in February 2013. During this time, I was his direct supervisor,
a staff member of the section.
His project was to develop, test and maintain a LabVIEW Fesa generic
interface, enabling integration of applications using LabVIEW in the Common
Middle Ware (CMW), the communication layer of the CERN accelerators. Stein-Inge
quickly developed a multi purpose communication layer using the CERN custom
Fesa based C++ interface, binding LabVIEW and C++ with a custom shared variable
interface, showing that he has the ability to solve much more complex problems.
He later continued extending the project by developing several validation and
integrity checks, saving us precious time when debugging connections in the future.
Much of the core implementation was realized in mere week.
Stein-Inge has also introduced a custom LabVIEW utility, automatically
generating the connections needed in LabVIEW (IE-PXI).
Stein-Inge has shown a remarkable capacity of learning new techniques in a
short time and immediately deploying them in his projects. He has solved difficult
technical problems that risked delaying his project by working extra hours and
providing well engineered solutions, showing maturity and responsibility.
Stein-Inge took short time to integrate into the section and became a highly
appreciated member, always ready with advice and suggestions when asked. He has
shown an enthusiasm that is appreciated by everyone who has met him.
I can say that it has been a pleasure to work with his and I would strongly
recommend Stein-Inge as a prominent engineer, capable of tackling any challenge in
his field.
If you'd like to discuss his attributes in more detail, please don't hesitate to contact
me.
Sincerely, Odd Øyvind Andreassen
