Top 10 – Leaning thoughts Historical data is fundamental to performance measurement and improvement --- so ensure accuracy of baseline data Work forward, not backwards; i.eunderstand the current state design decision well before defining the gaps with a future state Process change should drive outcomes ; do not wish for outcomes based on mathematical analysis When in doubt, simulate real operating conditions; if possible effect change in operating conditions for optimal results Build your model to recalibrate often with complete understanding of environmental factors Set up the initiative for success through effective change management practices Staff frustration levels could work counterproductive –manage expectations and create incentives Never forget the end to end view of processes to eliminate unwanted processes or steps; it is just not enough to eliminate waste Understand the Cause and effect – because leaning only effects the supply side of the equation Leaning to save money is like dieting to reduce the grocery bill 4/15/2011 6 Mahesh Natarajan
