A lynda.com assignment on Lean Six Sigma. This presentation is a summary of the certification on Lean Six Sigma Foundations and my understanding regarding the assignment.

3. Introduction to Lean Six Sigma

4. A theory that when variation is reduced,
there would be less chances of defects
occuring.

5. Lean is used to eliminate all non-value
added activities and/or waste.

6. Lean Six Sigma is the application of Lean
principles and methodologies. However
there isn’t a true specific mythologies and
principles in Lean Six Sigma.

7. Understanding Six Sigma

8. DMAIC Methodology:
• Define
• Measure
• Analyze
• Control
Define is used to spot problems internally and
externally with in the business. Instead of the
focusing on the defect, look more into the variability.

9. Data collection, process mapping and
fishbone diagrams can be applied to
various projects.

10. Analyze is the stage where you are
investigating the cause of an issue.

11. After the problem has analyzed we will
now come up with solutions by using ideas
and tools.

12. Control is used as a “Check and Balance”
making sure that the problem doesn't’t
occur again in the future.

13. The design for Six Sigma will be used in
order to specify new process, monitor
progress and approving the final project.

14. Understanding Lean

15. Metrics is used for improving customer
service, better usage of resources,
reducing inventories and improve product
quality.

16. The 5s:
• Sort
• Set in order
• Shine
• Standardize
• Sustain
The 5s is used with in the business for better
efficiency and effectiveness.

17. Kanaban systems are used for signaling a
feedback and efficiency. This is used for
achieving JIT.

18. TPM: Improving and maintaining the
integrity of production and the quality of
systems.

19. Making sure that the products are fool
proof (poka-yoke).

20. gradually overtime improving products
(Kaizen). Products are not always perfect
and customers opinion a factor that cannot
be disregarded.

21. Implementing Lean Six Sigma

22. Leading the project means running,
organizing and making sure that everyone
is on task.

23. Controlling the project means employees
are on task and they have an objective
everyday/goals.

24. When applying lean six sigma to a service,
customers opinions are half of the results.

25. Inventories are one of the business factors
that periodically can have some issues.
Therefore forecasting demand, optimizing
capacity and maintain good relationship
with the suppliers are important.
