Lesson plan 2:
Topic: Cardiovascular system and haemoglobin
Lesson duration: 50 minutes
Objectives for this lesson: 1. Understand the circulatory system and learn about the different
physical properties of blood vessels, including arteries, veins, and
capillaries.
2. Understand coronary circulation and that the heart has its own
blood supply
3. Understand systemic arterial pressure (blood pressure), measured
within large arteries in the systemic circulation.
4. Learn about the cardiovascular disease: definitions, prevalence,
risk factors, diagnostic tests
5. Understand why haemoglobin is an oxygen-transporter in the body
6. Apply the knowledge learned in the Kahoot
7. Complete questionnaire 1
Outcomes from this lesson: 1. Understand the main function of circulatory system is to deliver
oxygen and nutrients to rest of body from the heart
2. Students are required to complete the gap-filled exercise in the
booklet and correct any misunderstanding
3. Students are required to participate in the Kahoot check to
understand, and consolidate their learning
Subject knowledge required: 1. Circulatory system – Oxygenated and deoxygenated blood vessels
2. Blood vessels – arteries, veins, capillaries
3. Coronary circulation – what symptoms if blocked?
4. System blood pressure – normal range 120/80 what happened if
changed?
5. What diagnostic test for cardiovascular disease CVD
6. What happens if Haemoglobin is low?
Knowledge revisited: A-level contents
1. Circulatory system
2. Blood vessels
3. Coronary circulation
4. Cardiovascular disease risk factors
