5. Lunch Hour and Recess
 Lunch break is generally one-hour long; it is
also called lunch hour;
 Every school has its own cafeteria, which has
its own kitchen and is commonly used by
students, but they’re welcome to bring their
own food;
 Recess is limited to elementary school
students, one in the morning and one in the
afternoon in general, about 10-30 minutes
long;

 Both ESL and LINC classes are offered for
adults with only a one-time registration fee,
generally in the evening;

8. The Canadian School System
 French classes are mandatory until grade 9; it
is not always required for students who came
to Canada after grade 10 however;
 Most elementary and middle school teachers
can teach several subjects;
 All classes count towards the final grade.
There is no difference between math, English,
music, art, phys ed…etc.
