Course description
This course focuses on adult patients and discusses
diseases of the
• Endocrine system
• Genito-urinary system
• Musculo-skeletal and immunity
• It also discusses diseases and disorders of ear,
nose and throat; eyes and skin.
• Poisoning – accidental and deliberate suicide
attempt

Course objectives 1
At the end of the course, you will be able to
• Review common diseases and disorders of the
endocrine system and their management
• Describe diseases and disorders of the Genito-
urinary system and their management
• Describe diseases and disorders of the Musculo-
skeletal system and the immune system and their
management.
• Explain common ear, nose, throat and eye diseases
and disorders including inserted foreign bodies and
their management.

At the end of the course, you will be able to
• Describe diseases of the buccal cavity including the
teeth and their management.
• Discuss diseases and disorders of the skin and its
appendages including inherited disorders and their
management
• Identify poisoning both deliberate and accidental and
their management including animal bites and stings

Method of delivery
The course will involve both theory and practicals. It will
be participatory using the following techniques.
• Lecture using appropriate visual aids.
• Case studies and presentations
• Seminars/workshops, Clinical conferences
• Bedside teaching
• Brainstorming, Group study/discussions
• Role play, field trips
• Tutorials, Demonstrations and coaching
• Simulations/Games
8. Method of assessment
• Assessment will be based on both theory and
practical sessions.
• There will be assignments, quizzes, and final
examination.
• Attendance, assignments and quiz (continuous
assessment) will contribute 40% of the final exam.
• End of semester examination will contribute 60% of
the final exams. There will be forty objective
questions (20%) and 4 short Essay questions
(40%), where you will be required to answer All.
• In all, you will be required to obtain a total of ≥ 50%
to pass.
