DNA is the blueprint of life that contains the genetic code. It is a double-stranded helix composed of nucleotides. During transcription, RNA is synthesized from DNA in the cell nucleus. RNA is single-stranded and transports the genetic message to the cytoplasm for protein synthesis. In the cytoplasm, mRNA binds to ribosomes where tRNA brings amino acids to form a polypeptide chain according to the mRNA codon sequence. The sequence of amino acids determines the structure and function of the resulting protein.
