Content / Topic Introduction to CSS
Computer System Servicing (CSS) is a specialized field in Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) that focuses on the installation,
maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of computer systems and networks. It
equips learners with the technical skills and knowledge needed to ensure that
computers and related devices work efficiently and reliably.
CSS is not only about fixing problems when computers break down it also
emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and attention to detail to prevent
issues before they happen. Moreover, the course develops essential 21st-century
skills, such as teamwork, communication, and adaptability, which are important
in both school and workplace settings.
Motivational Activity
(Prior Knowledge Test)
Motivational Activity:
Instructions:
Introduction:
1. The teacher begins a class discussion with the question, “What do you think
is Computer Systems Servicing (CSS)?”.
2. Encourage students to freely share their initial thoughts, even if they are
unsure.
Brainstorming (7 minutes):
1. Students turn to a seatmate or small group and share their ideas.
2. Each group will share their ideas about CSS with the class.
3. Teacher records all responses on the whiteboard without judgment
(keywords, short phrases).
Guided Discussion (10 minutes):
1. Teacher highlights common themes from student responses (e.g., “repairing
computers,” “networks,” “maintenance”).
2. Teacher clarifies misconceptions gently and guides the class toward the
correct understanding of CSS:
CSS is about installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing
computer systems and networks.
It includes both hardware and software servicing.
Teacher provides real-life examples (e.g., fixing a slow computer, setting
up a printer, or connecting computers to Wi-Fi).
Wrap-Up (5 minutes):
1. Summarize the key points from the discussion.
2. Emphasize that CSS is not only about fixing problems but also about
