KŁODAWA
Kłodawa Salt Mine (Kopalnia Soli Kłodawa, KSK) is the biggest operating
salt mine in Poland and the deepest in Europe. The geological layer of salt
on which the mine is located was discovered in the late 1930s by Polish
professor Edward Janiszewski. The salt domes are 26 km long and up to
2 km wide.
In 2007, the mine broke the
Guiness World Record of a concert
organised underground. The
concert was performed by an
orchestra of Kalisz Philharmonic at
the depth of 600 metres.
