2. What is LMAC?
 LMAC began in Evansville in 1928 when four local LCMS
churches formed the Lutheran Inter-congregational
Committee.
 LMAC has been instrumental in planting LCMS churches
in the greater Evansville area since then.
 Present Officers are:
 Al Umbach – President
 Terry Lampton – Vice President
 Don Diekmann – Recording Secretary
 Jim Greenwell – Treasurer
 Rev. David Wiist – Pastoral Advisor
 Jim Kahre – Historian

3. LMAC Mission
To plant new churches
and sponsor educational, benevolent, and charitable
activities that promote Christian growth of the Lutheran
Church Missouri Synod in the Evansville East & West
circuits of the Indiana District in accord with the ideals,
traditions and customs of the LCMS.

4. What is the Project?
 To build a Lutheran Community Outreach Center
dedicated to unifying our churches in reaching out to all
people in the Evansville area, and to provide specific
services to meet the needs of these people in accordance
with Christ’s command in Matthew 25:34-40
 “ Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my father;
take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something
to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I
was in prison, and you came to visit me.’…. “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’

5. Why is LMAC leading this effort?
• To provide vision and leadership to our LCMS community.
• To strengthen our LCMS community.
• To provide opportunities for our LCMS community to fulfill
Christ’s command in Matthew 25.
• To make a difference in our community and thereby bring honor
and glory to God
• To care for the spiritual and temporal needs of our neighbors.
• To improve organization and efficiency of our on-going outreach
programs. (Food Pantry, Family Services, Bethesda)
• To help unify our LCMS churches in carrying out these services.

6. Lutheran Community Outreach Center
(“Lutherans in community in the community”)
 Building will be located at 16 East Michigan Street
 There will be space to house and operate the food pantry.
 Office space for both Lutheran Counseling Center and
Bethesda Lutheran Communities will be provided.
 LCMS Activities Center available for all LCMS churches for
various types of gatherings.
 Location is convenient for serving the needs of current
clients and in a key area to provide these services in the
future.

7. Food Pantry
• Serving Evansville’s needy since 1981.
• Serves 160-175 families twice monthly with food for 4 days.
• Annual budget of $15,000.
• Distributes over $350,000 worth of food per year.
• Kool Smiles dental program for children.
• Offers a bible study twice per month.
• US Dept. of Ag Home Agent teaches food preparation, food
safety, and nutrition.
• Social worker & registered nurse are available for consultation
• Personal counseling by a licensed counselor.
• Distributes handicap equipment & supplies.

8. Evansville Lutheran Family Counseling Inc.
• Mission – To share the Light and Wisdom of God’s love and
direction to all who seek our mental health counseling.
• 501©3 not-for-profit agency.
• Accepts co-pay and insurance reimbursement according to
contract.
• Offers a sliding fee scale based on ability to pay.
• Has an assistance fund to supplement those clients with
very little or no income.
• Treats people of all ages & faiths.
• Prayer and Scripture can be included.

9. Bethesda Lutheran Communities
 Mission – To enhance the lives of people with intellectual
and developmental disabilities through services that share
the good news of Jesus Christ.
 Services:
 Respite
 Individual Community Habilitation
 Residential Services
 In-house support
 Spiritual Life Support

 Walk together in Christ.
 Plan mission & ministry together.
 Train & Learn together

13. Anticipated costs to Build the LCC
Costs of Project:
3 lots by St. Paul’s &demolition costs $ 160,000
2 Lots by LMAC & demolition 120,000
Erecting a 62x100 ft. Building 495,000
Misc. (Furnishings, HVAC, 35,000
storage, appliances, etc.)
Total Construction Cost est. $ 815,000
Yearly Operating Expenses:
Utilities , food, religious materials, $ 30,000
maint., misc.

 St. Paul’s contribution (lots ) 160,000
 Additional LMAC funds 50,000
 Lutheran Trust Fund 85,000
 Lutheran Foundation 70,000
Total Funds Committed to date $ 485,000
Additional Funds Needed for building $ 325,000

15. How you can be involved
• Review the information about the plans for the LCOC.
• Visit the website to learn more and keep informed of

• Think & Pray about a monetary gift toward the LCOC.
• Think & Pray about a gift of your time and talent to help
erect the building.
• Think & Pray about how you might volunteer your time on
a longer term basis.
• Fill out the “Commitment Form” indicating your level of
support
• Promote the LCOC with your fellow parishioners

16. Anticipated Next Steps
 Inform each congregation about the plans for the Lutheran
Community Outreach Center.
 Create and promote opportunities for everyone in our
congregations to get involved in the building and/or
missions of the Lutheran Community Outreach Center.
 Provide regular updates about fundraising and building
progress on our website.
 Break ground as soon as possible.
 Complete the building by early 2010.
