During the planning, construction, and post-production stages of creating a music video, the author used various new media technologies. For planning, the author used Blogger to creatively display work and track progress. Prezi was used to innovatively present work. During construction, the author used a digital camera, lighting equipment, and an iPhone to film and take photos. Final Cut Pro was the main software used for editing during post-production, allowing the author to add effects and refine lip syncing. The music video was distributed using YouTube and shared on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to gather feedback.

Stuart Hall proposed a model of encoding and decoding for how audiences interpret mass media texts in different ways based on their social positions. The model included three ways of reading: the dominant reading, where the audience fully accepts the preferred reading; the negotiated reading, where the audience broadly accepts but sometimes modifies the reading; and the oppositional reading, where the audience's social position leads them to reject the dominant reading. Hall was also concerned with how mass media broadcasts dominant ideologies and positions audiences to create and define issues of public concern.

- 6. As you can see from these images of Miley Cyrus in her new song ‘Wrecking Ball’ Mulveys theory can be applied to her song. In this song Miley is presented as a sexual object for the viewer, typically the male viewer to watch. As you can see from the first image there is the use of the extra diegetic gaze as she is giving direct mode of address to the audience. The second image is what the male will gaze at due to the fact she is on a ball which is used when using heavy machinery. Something they will enjoy a lot (a hot girl on a mans ‘toy’. Again showing they are viewing Miley as part of that object rather than a woman. This is a voyeuristic technique to ensure the male audience will continue watching it to get pleasure, as they will have no real connection to the lyrics. APPLYING
