LAN Technology
An introduction about LAN Technologies
By :
M. Abaidullah _2140
INTRODUCTION
LAN, or Local Area Network, refers to a group of computers
and network devices that are connected to each other within
a relatively small geographical area, such as a building, a
floor of a building, or a campus. The purpose of LAN
technology is to enable these devices to communicate with
each other, share resources such as files and printers, and
access the internet or other wider networks.
Typically, LANs are established using wired technologies such
as Ethernet or fiber optic cables, or wireless technologies
such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The devices in a LAN are
connected through a network switch or router, which acts as
a central hub for data traffic.
Wireless LANs (Local Area
Networks) are computer networks
that use radio waves to connect
devices within a limited area, such
as a building, campus, or office. In
a wireless LAN, each device, such
as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet,
connects to a wireless access point
(AP), which acts as a central point
for data transmission.
Wireless LANs
Wired LANs (Local Area Networks) are
computer networks that use physical
cables, such as Ethernet cables, to
connect devices within a limited area,
such as a building, campus, or office. In a
wired LAN, each device, such as a
computer, printer, or server, is
connected to a switch or hub, which acts
as a central point for data transmission.

1 Bus Topology
In bus topology all devices are
connected to a single cable called the
backbone.
2 Ring Topology
3 Star Topology
4 Mesh Topology
In ring topology all devices are connected in a
loop or ring.
In star topology all devices are connected to a
single cable or a hub.
In mesh topology every device is connected to
every other device.
A LAN (Local Area
Network) topology refers
to the physical or logical
arrangement of network
devices, such as
computers, printers,
switches, and routers,
within a local area
network.
Topology :
5 Hybrid Topology A hybrid topology combines two or more
topologies to make a more flexible topology.
1 Network Adapter
Network Adapter is an important
component of LANs which access
network for communication.
2 Routers
3 Switches
4 Firewalls
Routers are basic components of LANs which
connect systems together.
Switches allow LANs to send and receive signals
from one system to another.
Firewalls are also basic and much important
component of LANs technology in communication.
LAN technology consist of
various components
including network
adapters,
routers ,switches and
firewalls.

The network adapter is
responsible for
transmitting and
receiving data between
the device and the
network.
The network adapter is
inserted into an expansion
slot or USB port on the
device, and is connected to a
network cable or wireless
network.
When a device sends data
over the network, the
network adapter on the
device converts the data into
signals that can be
transmitted over the network
cable or wireless signal.
a network adapter may
support Ethernet, Wi-Fi,
or Bluetooth protocols,
and may be designed
for different network
speeds, such as 10/100
Mbps or 1 Gbps.
A network adapter, also known as a network interface card (NIC), is a hardware
component that connects a computer or other device to a network.

LAN uses various protocols to enable
communication between devices
including Wi-Fi, I Ethernet and
TCP/IP.
