This document summarizes a study of a 2016 wildfire on La Palma Island, Canary Islands. The fire burned over 4,400 hectares in the southern part of the island in the Cumbre Vieja Natural Park from August 3-9, 2016. The fire was started accidentally by a tourist burning toilet paper. Satellite images from Landsat 8 from July-September 2016 and August 2015 were analyzed to identify changes in vegetation using indices like NDVI before and after the fire. Thermal bands helped identify burned areas and soil temperatures during the fire. The analysis compared conditions between 2015 when there was no fire and 2016 to understand the fire's impacts.
