This document discusses the Lao Open Source movement and localization efforts. It begins with background on Laos, including demographics and internet infrastructure. It then discusses the government's promotion of ICT and e-government projects using open source software. A small group of open source developers in Laos has translated software like Ubuntu, OpenOffice, and GNOME into Lao. However, their efforts are fragmented and underfunded. Their goals are to create a Lao Linux distribution and promote open source training to increase accessibility of technology in Laos.
