How will I gain this qualification?
• You will follow an online course with activities, quizzes and slides to
help you gain an awareness of the topics.
• You will then complete assessments to check you learning and
complete the workbook attached at the end to show what you have
learnt.
• This will be sent to an assessor who will check it and give you
supportive feedback.

Introducing your tutors
Maria Hurley
Maria is a Community Development teacher specialising in Volunteer Training and community projects. She has had an eclectic
range of jobs from working in family learning to being a curator in a local museum. Maria still works part time as a museum
consultant and during lock down has started to work in a care home as she has a special interest in dementia. She is a dementia
champion and can train other is dementia awareness.
In her spare time Maria will be found at the stables with her horse who is trained using positive reinforcement (clicker training).
Trish Fish
Trish is a tutor with Lancashire Adult Learning, previously with Accrington and Rossendale College - supporting people to achieve a
range of qualifications including Mentoring, Advice and Guidance, Retail and Customer Service, Interview Skills and Autism.
Being a highly experienced teacher, as well as an accredited coach, Trish has a wide range of skills and is passionate about
empowering and enabling her learners back into work or to develop their skill sets.
Introducing your tutors
Natalie Shorrock
Natalie works as an employability teacher for Lancashire Adult Learning focusing upon helping people to gain
employment/volunteering, update their CV’s and supporting documentation and develop their customer service skills.
Whilst studying at university Natalie worked within Primary Schools and now uses her training to support individuals to gain the
qualifications needed to work within the education sector.
Emma Turvey
Emma is currently an employability and volunteering tutor with Lancashire Adult Learning, supporting people throughout the
county in building the skills, knowledge and confidence to secure work and develop as volunteers.
Previously Emma has worked for the NHS throughout the North West to deliver organisational development change projects and
programmes which lead to positive change and workforce development.
Being a highly experienced teacher, Emma offers a wide range of skills and is passionate about supporting people to achieve their
goals.
Pam Williams
Pam is an enthusiastic, experienced teacher with Lancashire Adult Learning, supporting people to look for work, giving advice and
guidance on career / next steps, CV writing, interview preparation and job searching.
She has many years’ experience in teaching and learning both in industry and within an education setting with a proven track
record of supporting people to achieve their goals.

Claire Gardner
Claire is a Community Development teacher specialising in teaching the Volunteer Training Programme. She also
teaches Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity and Mentoring throughout Lancashire
Having previously been a volunteer and worked in the voluntary sector Claire is passionate about the impact that
volunteering has on individuals and communities
Anita Houghton
Anita works as a curriculum leader for employability and volunteering within Lancashire Adult Learning. She
works with partners to develop courses to help learners develop skills to gain employment or develop as
volunteers to help strengthen their communities.
She has many years’ experience in teaching and learning both in industry and within FE
