PERSONAL PROFILE
Currently working towards self-employment and/or working in temporary positions while
winding down slightly from a hectic working life. I am qualified as a Trainer/Facilitator as well as
a qualified Counsellor. I work on a person centred basis with a variety of clients who are
referred to me with a range of personal problems. These can range from anxiety and
depression to eating disorders and self-harm. I am a creative, adaptable, calm and flexible
person with a wealth of experience in writing and delivering motivational and self-awareness
training courses. I enjoy creating and adapting training materials to suit people from all walks of
life and I deliver courses to counsellors and addiction workers.
In my current employment in a high security prison I deliver a formal presentation and
workshop called GOALS to male prisoners of all ages. This is a motivational course where the
prisoners are taught self-awareness and self-responsibility. It encompasses the causes of low
self-esteem and the importance of raising confidence in order to become motivated in setting
and aiming for goals in life. I have adapted this course accordingly so that the prisoners can
relate to it. I also facilitate a group counselling course based on CBT which empowers prisoners
to explore the cause of substance misuse in order for them to find ways to change their lives for
the better. I also teach IT skills, introduction to psychology and any other courses deemed
suitable for their rehabilitation.
During a number of years involved with training the unemployed and disadvantaged, I helped
many by setting up work placements and supporting them throughout. I developed and
sustained working relationships with a range of professional services, including the community-
based mental health sector.
Over a period of four years, while working for Inverness College, which is part of the University
of the Highlands and Islands, I became familiar with curriculum delivery in an educational
environment as opposed to training. Because of the geographical nature of the centre, many
students were enrolled onto various distance learning courses, and a big part of my role was to
mentor them. This meant, not only dealing with any personal or academic issues, but also
training IT skills. I worked with many students who were educated to degree level, but, because
of various life difficulties, had become emotionally ill. I encouraged them through their courses
by using confidence building techniques.
My Microsoft Office skills are excellent and I keep up to date with all new packages. I work well
on my own and also as part of a team. I have a full clean driving licence, hold a PVG disclosure
and am willing to travel and work outside of office hours.
