Karratha Airport
• The Karratha Airport (KTA) is located in the north west of Western Australia.
• Owned and operated by the City of Karratha it is the second busiest airport in
Western Australia with a gross number of passengers on all aircraft types in excess
of 817,000 p.a and in excess of 9,000 landings throughout the year.
4. The Challenge

Western Australia
• 817,000 passengers p.a.
• The terminal remained operational throughout
the redevelopment programme
• Results speak for themselves
• No essential facilities unavailable
• Minimal negative passenger feedback (except
when we closed the bar for 2 weeks)
5. • Karratha Airport terminal dates to 1983
• The concept for the upgrade was to maintain only the
existing steel truss structure, roof and floor slab.
• A comprehensive upgrade of facilities, services and finishes
were completed.
• The design incorporates extensive glazing, shaded by wide
overhangs, providing natural light.
• The environmental air-conditioning system minimises energy
consumption by incorporating:-
• low speed high-volume fans,
• co² monitoring of return air,
• entropy transfers to pre-cool supply air.
