Rosetta: Okay. Today we have Krista Butler. Krista Butler is a Nutritional
TherapyPractitioner; she received her Master of Science at McGill University, and
her Bachelor of Art at Bishop University. Krista's favorite foods are eggs, over easy
and real butter, avocados and any thing Mexican. Krista likes Farmer's Markets,
Magazine, hiking, musical, belly laughter, CBC, bunnies and road trips. Krista
welcome to our program.
Krista: Thank you Rosetta.
Rosetta: Happy to have you.
Krista: Happy to be here. Just a quick note, CBC is the Canadian equivalent of NPR.
Rosetta: Okay, thank you for sharing that with our listeners. Krista share with our
listeners about the day you decided to become a nutritional therapypractitioner.
Krista: Well it all started with my husband who was at that point my fiancé. He got a
job offer to work in Texas and this wasn't really ever on our radar, to move to Texas
but it was a really good opportunity for him. And we didn’t really have any thing
holding us back to where we were living at the time so we decided to move to Texas.
And that kind of allowed me to re-evaluate what I was doing with my life because I
was working in the environmental field, but so when he got this opportunity for a
great dream job, I thought to myself what's my dream job and it was really all about
nutrition and that's been a hobby and a passion of mine ever since I was 16 years
old and so it just made sense for me to turn that into a career. So I guess the day I
decided to become a nutritional therapypractitioner was the day we decided to
move to Texas because it was just a fresh start.
Rosetta: What visions did you have for yourself about being a nutritionist?
Krista: I knew that I wanted in a very general sense just help people and just share
with them what I kind of discovered for my own health and well-being. So I decided
to get formal education just to make that transfer of knowledge to people more
legitimate I guess. And really I think I should have known all along that I wanted to
be my boss and have my own company because that just kind of goes with my
personality. I really like working for myself and I am motivated to work for myself
as oppose to someone else. So it all just kind of fit together.
Rosetta: How did it make you feel?
Krista: So good, ever since that day I decided to do this until this current day, I am
so grateful that every day I get to wake up and share amazing recipes with and lead
them to other people's recipes and just get people inspired to put real food in their
bodies.
Rosetta: How do you measure your success as nutritional therapypractitioner right
now?
Krista: The success is all base on the feedback from the people that you work with.
So that can range from just getting comments on blog posts, or likes on social media
but even more importantly, it's getting the feedback from those people that I'm
working with one on one who have seen the changes in their health, their energy
levels, and their every day life. And they're experiencing the amazing changes that
come to all aspects of your life when you change the way you eat to a healthy life.
Rosetta: Okay, tell me about the moment that you had the right strategies and the
system in place to prepare real food on the table in record time.
Krista: Can you repeat that?
Rosetta: Okay. Tell me about the moment that you had the right strategies and the
systems to and prepare the real food on the table at record time. Say for example for
people that have a busy lifestyle. What strategies would you give them to prepare
food on a table in record time?
Krista: So I know this from 15 years of experimentation myself, the biggest tip that I
can give to people is organization. And that can be in different ways and mean
different thing for different people. But the two big ones are first of all always
having real food, healthy ingredients in your fridge. So you are not tempted by
anything and you know just in your head that you have healthy options there
waiting for you. But more importantly I think would be to take15 minutes and meal
plan. Plan out what you are going to have for breakfast lunch and dinner for the
week. If that seems to daunting just start with dinner but just take the time to plan
what you are going to eat so you know what you have to buy at the grocery store,
the Farmer's market wherever you got your food. You know how much time it is
going to take to prepare it in the evening. So if you are going to be late one night, you
might want to make something that's faster than another night. And paired with that
another big tip is always cook more than you actually going to eat night so that you
have left overs to either eat for lunch the next day or to freeze and use either meal a
different night.
Rosetta: Making extra food does sound like an excellent idea, I'm sure our readers
and listeners will take advantage of that informat
Krista: Yeah, because if you already chopping up a carrot, you may as well chop up
two so you'll just have that much more.
Rosetta: Yes, okay. Now the foundation of your health depends on the food you are
putting in your body. Now this statement that I just read. Tell us what this statement
means to you.
Krista: Well every single cell in your body is made up of what you put into your
body. And so at a cellular level we are what we eat. So therefore we can say that the
foundation of your health depends on yourselves, which depends on what you eat.
So truly you do have control over your health and your body by what you are
putting into it. And this allows you to build a solid foundation for your health.
Rosetta: Okay I agree with that. Okay I also read that you like Farmer's markets.
Now last weekend, I visited a historical public market and Lancaster County in
Pennsylvania. And it was in the heart of the Homage country. It was located in a
beautiful 120-year-old red brick building. For me this was an awesome shopping
experience. Can you tell me why you like Farmer's markets?
Krista: Yes, well your trip to Pennsylvania that sounds amazing. Farmer's markets
have a place in my heart for a couple of reasons. When I first got into nutrition, I was
a vegetarian because I thought that that's what it was to be healthy. And I also
thought I was doing good for the environment and all these things. But it was only
when I started going to my local Farmer's market and seeing the farmers there who
sold meat that they were doing it in a sustainable and if I may say beautiful way. You
know they were raising their animals out on pasture, treating them well and doing it
how they would have done 100 years ago. So in my heart and in my head, I knew I
didn’t have a problem with that kind of meat. And had I never gone to the farmer's
market, I probable wouldn’t have been exposed to that. So once I came to term that
they are people out there doing a great job with raising meat. I changed my eating
habits and started incorporating this pasture raised amazing meat that is available
when you support local and go to your farmer's markets. The other aspect that I like
about it is that it's a good excuse to get out there and be with your community every
week depending on what day the farmer's market is open. It is just a way to connect
both with your farmers but also your neighbors and it really does build a sense of
community.
Rosetta: Well I agree with you, my experience at the farmers’ market was awesome,
as I said people are just so friendly and it was just great just getting to know the
people in the community I felt like a part of the family. So that was a great
experience.
Krista: And I guess another thing to add on to that is that it gives you the
opportunity to actually talk to your farmers too and find out about them and their
practices and it just connects you with your food. Which is amazing.
Rosetta: Yes, that's true. Where can our listeners learn more about you?
Krista: The best place to do that would be my website which is www
befoodsavvy.com and there they will get tons of tips and tricks about how to live a
real food live and eat the way to a life they love.
Rosetta: Okay thank you so much. I'm sure our listeners will go directly to your
website and learn more about food that they can eat and like. Thank you so much
Krista.
Krista: Thank you Rosetta
Rosetta: Bye
Krista: Bye
