3. Climate is the condition of the lower atmosphere in a
particular region on earth that is the average of at least
30 years worth of weather condition in that place.
A region climate is generated by
climate system, which has 5 component
Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Cryosphere,
Lithosphere & Biosphere

5. Done by Wladimir Koppen (1846-1940)
Russian-German meteorologist and
climatologist and Botanist
First classification is done in 1900 largely on
the basis of vegetation zones and later in
1918 revised it with greater attention to
temperature, rainfall and sectional
characteristic.

11. Koppen’s secondary order classification
Tropical climate
• A tropical climate is a climate in the
tropical region.
• In the koppen’s climate classification it
is a non–arid climate in which all
twelve month have mean
temperatures of at least 18°C .
• Tropical temperature remains
relatively constant through the year
and seasonal variation are dominated
by precipitation.

12. • Tropical climate are those climates
where heat is dominant problem
where the greater part of the year
buildings serve to keep cool for
occupation room rather than warm.
Koppen’s secondary order classification
Tropical climate
• Tropical climate are frost-free, and
changes in the solar angle are
small. In tropical climate
temperature remains relatively
constant (hot) through the year.

14. Tropical rainforest
• It may be also known as equatorial
climate .
• All months have an average precipitation
of at least 60 mm.
• True rainforest are typically found
between 10 degree north and 10 degree
south of equator.
• Tropical rainforest can be characterized
in two words
hot and wet.

15. • Two third of the flowering plants
can be found in rainforest.
• A single hectare of rainforest may
contain 42,000 different species of insect,
upto 807 tree of 313 species and 1500
species of higher plants.
• Monthly mean temperature exceed 18° C
during all month of the year.

17. Tropical Savanna Forest
• Tropical savanna forest is also known
as tropical wet and dry climate .
• Savanna forest is also known as
tropical grassland.
• Annual precipitation average between
762mm – 1270mm
• Tropical savanna is found between
23°25 N and 23°25 S
• Tropical savanna climate have
monthly mean temperature above
20°C.
• The driest month having precipitation
less then 60mm to 100mm.

18. • Savannas only occurs in warm
or hot climate.
• Africa contains more savanna
terrain then any other
continents.
• The average annual rainfall
ranges between 1000mm to
1500mm.
• In India, it is found at the base
of Himalayas about 25 Km

20. Koppen’s secondary order classification
Tropical monsoon
• Tropical monsoon is also known as
tropical wet climate.
• Month having mean precipitation of less
then 60mm to 100mm.
• Annual temperature lies between 8°C to
33°C.
• Annual rainfall is not more than
1800mm.
• Main location Guianas, Burma, much of
Philippines
