An arm for Nadine – From Cat with Love
South-Africa-London girl with the golden voice, Cat Simoni, will appear at this
year’s Knysna Arts Festival for a very special purpose: to perform her show
‘From Cat with Love’ to help raise finance for a prosthesis for Knysna’s own
golden girl, Nadine Rodeom – an alumnus of Cresset House (part of the
Camphill Care organisation), who lost her arm after a vicious dog attack while
she was on holiday earlier this year. (Facebook: ‘Support And Love for Nadine.’)
In her show, Cat and her producer, Paul Spence (who provides the all-important
second voice, as well as the ‘patter’ that brings continuity to the performance),
draws from her wide repertoire of all-time favourites: showstoppers and
megahits from the likes of Andrew Lloyd-Webber, Queen, Billy Joel, The Beatles,
Barbra Streisand, Sade, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Edith Piaf and more.
“After ten years singing for the international crème de la crème at London’s

This vibrant new South African musical comes to the Knysna Festival fresh

and director, Ingrid Wylde, and Empowerdex’s Vuyo Jack – a singer himself
and a huge lover of jazz – this musical masterwork uses as its starting point
the rich history of South African jazz. Set in the 1950s and 60s in Meadowlands,
Soweto, and linked to the present through original, new compositions by
Zanika Mehta, Ilizwi is a love story told through great songs like Meadowlands,
Ntyiko, Ntyilo, Lakutshoni Langa, and Weekend Special. With creative
direction by Nox Donyeli with assistance from Ingrid Wylde and Sisonke
Yafele, Ilizwi is a triumphant celebration of local talent.

The Elvis Story
Roy Taylor takes us on a journey in words and live music through the life,
loves and career of the world’s most successful entertainer – Elvis Presley.
This show - which was devised, written, and produced by Roy, with sound,
visuals and musical direction by Baden Hall – is no Elvis impersonation.
Rather, it’s an appreciative reminiscence of the singer who changed the face
of popular music, as well the world’s approach to everything from style and
dress to our attitude to sex.
Roy Taylor has been involved in the entertainment business since he was 19.
He hails from Bournemouth in the UK – where he played in his own band,
The Johnny Quantrose Five – and he’s shared the stage with great musicians
like The Rolling Stones, Manfred Man, the late Cilla Black, and many others.
In South Africa he’s written for, acted and sung on stage and radio. He now
lives in Knysna.
Show time: Friday at 19h30 at the Knysna Golf Club. Includes dinner.
The Songbirds
Mike Stapleton (stage name Mike Shannon) was the lead singer with ‘Mike
Shannon and the Diamonds’ – which gave us the hit single ‘Blue Velvet,’ and
opened for many big names in the UK and Australia in the 60s. He founded
his choir – The Songbirds – in 2010. Amazingly, although none of its sixteen
members reads music, the choir has a successful track record of producing
shows that have raised money for charity. Their show for the Festival will
include music from the 60s and 70s.
Show time: Friday at 19h00 at Tottie’s Restaurant, Rheenendal. Includes dinner.

in unraveling the great twist in this dynamic one-hander starring Ryan Dittman.

FrackNation: Fracking Myths Debunked
The anti-fracking film Gasland has been widely screened, galvanising popular
opposition to shale gas. Journalist Phelim McAleer tested the claims made in

his journey. Local journalist Ivo Vegter will screen this film and host a Q&A on
the shale gas controversy. Ivo is an independent columnist published weekly
in Daily Maverick, and is the author of the book ‘Extreme Environment: How
Environmental Exaggeration Harms Emerging Economies.’
Meet: Saturday at 14h00 in the Conference Room at the Conrad Pezula
