related environment and accelerating the learning process of how knowledge
could be used in realistic way.
- To help us get accustomed to anorganizational structure, business operation and

logical extension of our academic pursuits and will be very helpful in achieving
my objectives.

THE STORY OF KIOCL
Incorporated onApril 2, 1976, the KIOCL Ltd, a Government ofIndia enterprise,
was Asia's largest iron ore mining and palletization complex and the country's
biggest 100% export oriented unit engaged in the business of exporting high
quality iron oxide pellets and pig iron.
The company was formed in April 1976. The 7.5 million ton annual capacity
project at Kudremukh along with the 110 km slurry pipeline and filtration units
at Mangalore was to becompleted in August 1980. Shipments were to commence
in September 1980. KIOCL completed the project in time.
Mining activities at the worksite at Kudremukh, 110 kms from Mangalore came

There is an application which controls these MIS systems i.e., KIOCL inventory
project report.
The application data are as follows:
Language: Java (JDK 1.4.2)
Application Server: Tomcat (Tomcat 5.0)
Database Server: DB2 (8.2.1)
IDE: NetBeans 5.0
Beta reporting tool: iReport 1.3.0
Operating System: Windows XP, SunOS 5.9

6. All the processing is done online through this inventory application. There are
many options such as online entry, amendments, query etc. Some of the online
entry sub options are pending DMPR, MPR process, PO process, GRN Posting,
MRV postings, stocktransfer issue, stocktransfer receipt etc. There are also sub
options in amendments such as MPR amendments and PO amendments.
Query can be item query which gives the complete detail aboutmain and custody
information of the particular item code entered. When the user department raise
draft MPR, MPCS use this item query to check the availability of the item
specified in the DMPR. If the item is available in suitable quantity the item is
supplied to user and also data is updated in the inventory applications. All these
processing of data is controlled by system department.
The main activity in system department is data collection i.e., if there is any

- When the repair of any machine in the plant is undertaken, compulsory
shut down of the entire plant so as to avoid untoward incidents for working
personnel who are repairing the machinery.
- A number of slogans regarding safety is put up everywhere in the
campus. For example "PRODUCTION IS MUST, BUT SAFETY IS SUPER
MOST".
- Warning boards are put tip near every machine to avoid hazards. - A fire
brigade is always kept ready to fight fire accidents.
- In case of accidents, a first aid center is made available in the plant for
immediate treatment.
Adopting these safety measures, the company is able to reduce the number of
accidents in the working area very efficiently. A separate department has been

11. CONCLUSION
In review this internship has been an excellent and rewarding experience.
I have been able to meet and network with so many people that I am sure will
be able to help me with opportunities in the future.
One main thing that I have learned through this internship is time
management skills as well as self-motivation. Before this internship I had never
imagined myself walking around an industrial plant. I learned that I needed to
be organized and have questions ready for when it was the correct time to ask
my mentors.
I will propagate the wonderful experience I had at KIOCL to my parents,
relatives and friends. I will also suggest my classmates to take benefit of this
courseoffered by KIOCL.
This was an excellent experience and I hope that other interns also got as
much out of it as I did!
