The Alphabet
Do you know the Alphabet Song? Your teacher will sing it to you.

Next time won’t you sing with me?
Now, sing the song with your teacher.
Your teacher will show you pictures of a cat and a hat. After your teacher
says each word, you will echo it, which means repeat.
Now look at the pictures of a dog and a log. Echo what your teacher has
said after seeing each picture.
Look at both sets of pictures. Your teacher will explain that they rhyme
because they have the same ending sounds. Dog and log rhyme because
they both end with “og”. Cat and hat rhyme because they both end with
“at”.
Think of words that have the same beginning sound as your name. Make a
list.
Get out a piece of paper and some crayons. Choose one item from your
list. Draw a picture of you and the item you chose. Tell your teacher about
the picture you drew.
Look at the Alphabet Chart your teacher will show you. These are the let-
ters that make up the alphabet. When you write, you use these letters.
Your teacher is going to read you a story called “My First Day of School”.
She will point to each word that is read.
When you read, you always start on the left side of the page and go to the
right. This is called tracking.
