On track in Maryland to enact a ban
on crib bumpers.
KID testified twice in support of
Maryland’s ban on the sale of crib
bumper pads.
With KID’s help, the ban became
effective in June 2013.

Maryland joins Chicago, who’s ban took effect in April 2012

KID Action Team is born!
We formed the KID Action
Team in April 2013. We can
now provide “boots on the
ground” when legislation or
policy is being considered to
make sure policy makers and
CPSC hear our voices.

4
We’ve expanded our programming
Through workshops and community
fairs we directly reached over 300
parents and caregivers.
KID now serves on the Illinois
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
task force.

Our program work is inspiring action!
We hear stories of KID’s outreach inspiring change. Parents
and caregivers are more active about safety.

“

I appreciated all of the wonderful information provided. It
will make me more diligent about checking out all recall
information in the future.
---Caregiver, Dekalb Workshop, 11/26/2012

I will make sure to check online before purchasing a child
product from now on. Shocking to believe that it took 5
children to die for the play yard to be recalled.
---Participant, Tuesday’s Child Training, 3/15/2013

I have an infant at home and I will definitely register my
products and will pass this resourceful information to my
loved ones.
---Parent, Easter Seals, 2/12/2012

Ellie’s mom turned grief into action and hosted a
KID safety workshop in New Hampshire

And, our reach is growing…
KID reaches new parents through
publications such as Expectant Parent
Magazine, The Bump, Chicago Parent
and Kid’s Magazine
We have built strong partnerships with
online parenting networks. As guest
bloggers we share our safety message
with new audiences nationwide.

7
We’ve improved our ability to provide
up-to-the minute safety and recall news.
• Our mobile site allows parents
and caregivers to search recalls on
the go.
• Hundreds visit KID’s awardwinning website each day for
safety information.
• Over 6,500 people subscribe and
receive our monthly email alerts.

Online engagement is up!
Our social media efforts
have attracted 1,373
Facebook fans and 2,156
Twitter followers.

A must ‘like’ for parents of
babies, toddlers, and young
children --Jenn

Thanks for all your help keeping
children safe --Lisa

Danny’s Law made it to CNN
KID’s annual research on recalls
found that Danny’s Law has had
an impact on reducing recalls.
The recall report served as the
basis of a national news program
on CNN Headline News helping to
reach even more families and
communicate the importance of
child safety laws.

10
An example of KID outreach:
Community Baby Showers
KID has become a regular fixture at
the biannual Community Baby Shower
at Prentice Hospital in Chicago.
Over 600 new and expecting parents
heard KID’s message at these events.

11
We released research findings that
matter:
After examining incidents
involving pacifiers on
Saferproducts.gov, KID’s
August 2012 report helped
focus attention on the need
to strengthen standards and
testing for pacifiers.

© 2013 Kids In Danger, Inc.

In June 2012, KID
released its Analysis of
Magnet Related Injuries,
highlighting the everpresent dangers from
high-powered magnets.
This research later
became part of a larger
study published in Clinical
Pediatrics.
12
We helped develop a new
standard on baby monitors
KID actively participated and helped
frame a new voluntary standard on
Baby Monitors.

Savannah

© 2013 Kids In Danger, Inc.

This standard is intended to prevent
strangulation deaths such as that of
10 month old Savannah.

13
We have volunteers that rock!
KID developed a volunteer program that has
over 14 active volunteers serving more than 200
hours each month.
KID hosted a day of service
engaging volunteers who
distributed hundreds of KID
materials to local family
focused organizations and
businesses.

Working at Kids In Danger was very
gratifying because I had many opportunities
to put my creativity to work.
