The product is structured as an Education Savings Account (ESA), defined in section 530 of
the IRS tax code.
It works just like an IRA. Yearly contributions are limited to $2,000 per year, and the money
grows tax free if used while your child is in school, instead of during retirement like an IRA.
Reoccurring contributions from your bank can be set up monthly or annually. Once a
contribution is completed, the money is invested in a fund that tracks the S&P 500.
To make sure our clients feel their money is secure, we chose Scottrade as the custodian
because they have over 15,000 branch office locations so clients can easily make
deposits and take withdrawals from their Scottrade account.
