The president thanks various individuals for their contributions to the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL). This includes thanking the previous president, Katy Manck, for her service and agreeing to take on the role of treasurer. Thanks are also given to board members, the conference committee, sponsors, and institutional partners who supported the recent IASL conference hosted in South Carolina. The president expresses gratitude for the work of the International School Library Month team and encourages celebrating this year's theme of reading for global peace and harmony.

A
s I write this message, I am thinking
about turkey and gravy, mashed
potatoes and stuffing - the typical
Thanksgiving foods. It might seem a bit early
for that thinking for those of you from the
US but this weekend is Thanksgiving for
us in Canada - always the first Monday in
October. It is fitting then for my first message
as your new IASL President to begin with
many heartfelt messages of thanks.
Thank you to Katy Manck who served as
President of IASL for two terms. Katy has a
love of meeting new people and talking with
old friends, a keen eye for detail on financial
matters, a wonderful “y’all” to make everyone
feel welcome and included and, most of
all, a love for school libraries. It has been a
pleasure to work with you on IASL Executive
and I am so grateful that you agreed to come
back in the role of Treasurer for this year.
For his many years of service and support
for people to attend IASL conferences, I
would like to thank Dr. Albert Boekhorst. A
big thank you to our board members, past
and present, who serve our 9 regions. Your
contributions to these “local” communities
help build the IASL “brand” around the
world.
Thank you to Lucy Santos Green and her
team at the University of South Carolina
for hosting an amazing in-person and
virtual conference. I send my warmest
thanks to the IASL 2022 Conference
Committee members: Valerie Byrd-Fort,

Our University of Alberta’s colours are green
and gold and, if you look at this photo taken
from my front porch, I think you can see
why. Our first university president, Henry
Marshall Tory, shared that the work of the
university was “for the uplifting of the whole
people” and, with this ideal in mind, I am so
very thankful for my wonderful colleagues
