2. HIPS : (High impact polystyrene)
HIPS is a tough plastic that has excellent impact strength,
high stiffness and excellent Moldability but reduced
transparency.
HIPS is used for household appliances (TV housings,
exterior of air-conditioner, etc.), office automation
apparatus (housing for a copying machine, printer, etc.),
toys, house wares, frozen food tray, bottles for a lactic
acid drink, cups for ice cream etc .
Properties :
 Well-balanced mechanical properties with high impact and
excellent flexural strength
 Super high impact
 High gloss with toughness
 Medium-impact with high heat resistance
 Applicable to Flame-retardant grade
 Excellent processability .
Application :
It is used in covers others applications include ,
housing , machined prototypes , low strength structural
components .

3. ABS : (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resin)
ABS has excellent rigidity and is resistant to stretch, bend,
impact, etc. and has excellent heat/cold resistance and
chemical resistance.
ABS is also suitable for plating, easy to be colored, and is
able to make molded products with gloss.
ABS is used for automotive parts, house wares,
miscellaneous goods, a coffee mill, parts of coffee-maker,
refrigerator, and microwave oven, a thermos bottle, a
pump pot, a water-purifying device, a measure cup for rice
bin, lacquered ware etc .
ABS is amorphous and therefore has no true melting
point.
Applications :
ABS is light weight and ability to be inject injection molded
and extruded make it useful in manufacturing products
such as drain-waste-vent (DWV) , pipe systems, musical
instruments (recorders, plastic clarinets, and piano
movements), golf club heads (due to its good shock
absorbance ), automotive trim components, automotive
bumper bars, medical devices for blood access,
enclosures for electrical and electronic assemblies,
protective headgear , whitewater canoes, buffer edging for
furniture and joinery panels, luggage and protective
carrying cases, small kitchen appliances, and toys,

4. including Lego bricks. Household and consumer goods
are the major consumers of acrylonitrile butadiene
styrene.
ABS plastic ground down to an average diameter of less
than 1 micrometer is used as the colorant in some tatto
inks.
ABS is also commonly used in rapid prototyping extrusion-
based 3D printers. Its glass transition temperature is high
enough to reduce unwanted deformation at slightly
elevated temperatures but low enough to be safely
attainable with standard extrusion setups.
Advantages of ABS Plastic :
Excellent impact resistance. It can have good appearance
for cosmetic parts. Strength is moderate. Good resistance
to acids and bases.

5. Disadvantages of ABS Plastic :
It is sensitive to thick sections in your part which may
cause voids, bubbles or sink. Attacked by hydrocarbons
and organic solvents. Heat resistance is low. Price is
relatively high.

 Relatively high cost
 Flammable with high smoke generation
