Please note: 
All children must wear their SZPA PE Kit to every 
lesson. (If all children wear their gym kit the class 
gets a stamp on Ms. Kerry’s Gym Kit Superstars!!) 
All children strive to be the best Gym Class. Each week a class is awarded 
a trophy engraved “Ms. Kerry’s Gym Class of the Week” which they have 
the pride of displaying the trophy in their class the following week
School Timing 
• KG School Hours: 
• 7:45am - 12:30pm (Sunday–Wednesday) 
• 7:45am - 12:45pm (Thursday) 
• Please make every effort to ensure your 
child arrives to school on time. 
• Classroom instructions begins straight after the 
National Anthem at 8:00am. 
• In the morning before school, supervision is provided in the 
waiting rooms/playground from 7:30am. 
Please do not leave children unsupervised before this time.
Our Attendance Policy 
• * In accordance with ADEC requirements, our school policy 
states that students should have a 95% attendance rate. 
• * Students are expected to attend school every day unless 
they are sick. 
* * Parents should notify the school early in the morning to 
report an absence. 
* * All appointments/holiday trips should be made outside 
the school day whenever possible. 
* * Any pre-planned days out of school need to be 
authorized by the school principal.
Homework 
* In KG2, your teacher will provide assignments based 
on the individual needs of your child. 
* These will include suggestions for literacy and 
numeracy activities you can do at home with your 
child to help reinforce concepts taught. 
* Every Sunday you will be e-mailed an overview 
outlining the homework suggestions for the week. 
* Please remember to check your Jolly Phonics book 
and read with your child 10 minutes 
each night.
KG2 This week we are learning……. Reminders 
Reading: Children will be: 
-focusing on the letters: n/ c/k / e / h / r / 
-isolating these letter sounds within words. 
-blending sounds in combination with last week’s letter sounds to make words. For example: cat, 
pin, pet, rip, hip, rat, pen 
-read the FRY words. a, to, in Children will be learning to recognize these letters within text as well 
as use these words in their writing. 
- participate in shared reading activities with the teacher. They will be learning about the basic 
concepts of print. They will be learning to discuss the story and make connections and form 
opinions about the stories read. 
Please refer to your child’s red Jolly Phonics Reading Log Book for the sequence of letters taught as 
well as the FRY words.

In KG2 we follow the American Common Core Standards 
implemented through inquiry based learning.

KG2 PE With Ms. Kerry!! 1 x a week Some examples of what we learn •Eat Right, Get Active, combining healthy food choices and exercise •Safe exercising incl. warm ups and stretching •Introduction to Teamwork and Sportsmanship •Throwing Skills •Catching Skills •Kicking Skills (Soccer) •Dribbling Skills (Basketball) •Jumping Skills •Volleying and Striking skills (Tennis / Hockey) •Rolling and Tumbling Skills (Gymnastics) •Swimming (water safety, water confidence, introduction to swimming on front and back) Please note: All children must wear their SZPA PE Kit to every lesson. (If all children wear their gym kit the class gets a stamp on Ms. Kerry’s Gym Kit Superstars!!) All children strive to be the best Gym Class. Each week a class is awarded a trophy engraved “Ms. Kerry’s Gym Class of the Week” which they have the pride of displaying the trophy in their class the following week

School Timing • KG School Hours: • 7:45am - 12:30pm (Sunday–Wednesday) • 7:45am - 12:45pm (Thursday) • Please make every effort to ensure your child arrives to school on time. • Classroom instructions begins straight after the National Anthem at 8:00am. • In the morning before school, supervision is provided in the waiting rooms/playground from 7:30am. Please do not leave children unsupervised before this time.

Our Attendance Policy • * In accordance with ADEC requirements, our school policy states that students should have a 95% attendance rate. • * Students are expected to attend school every day unless they are sick. * * Parents should notify the school early in the morning to report an absence. * * All appointments/holiday trips should be made outside the school day whenever possible. * * Any pre-planned days out of school need to be authorized by the school principal.

Homework * In KG2, your teacher will provide assignments based on the individual needs of your child. * These will include suggestions for literacy and numeracy activities you can do at home with your child to help reinforce concepts taught. * Every Sunday you will be e-mailed an overview outlining the homework suggestions for the week. * Please remember to check your Jolly Phonics book and read with your child 10 minutes each night.
  • 10. KG2 This week we are learning……. Reminders Reading: Children will be: -focusing on the letters: n/ c/k / e / h / r / -isolating these letter sounds within words. -blending sounds in combination with last week’s letter sounds to make words. For example: cat, pin, pet, rip, hip, rat, pen -read the FRY words. a, to, in Children will be learning to recognize these letters within text as well as use these words in their writing. - participate in shared reading activities with the teacher. They will be learning about the basic concepts of print. They will be learning to discuss the story and make connections and form opinions about the stories read. Please refer to your child’s red Jolly Phonics Reading Log Book for the sequence of letters taught as well as the FRY words. Back to School Night is Tuesday, September 16th 5:00-6:00pm in the Upper School theater. Return your child’s KG1 summer bingo activity sheet. Please provide a labelled water bottle each day with your child. Please provide an additional set of clothes labeled for your child. Students should not be arriving at school before 7:30. There is no supervision in the waiting room. Classroom doors will not open until 7:45. Snack time is ICT: Children will be: -learning how to manipulate the Interactive White Board. Writing: Children will be: -labeling pictures that are meaningful to them. -practicing handwriting (letter formation and their name) Math: Children will be: - Counting to 20 - Writing numbers to 10

Curriculum & Investigations In KG2 we follow the American Common Core Standards implemented through inquiry based learning. *Math *Reading *Writing *Science *Social Studies Teachers teach explicit lessons in each of these areas and then students have opportunities to “investigate” and put these new skills, concepts and ideas into practice.
  • 14. Students discuss their learning objectives before each lesson. During the plenary or reflection time, and during the main body of the lesson, teachers can monitor student progress and understandings.
