This document summarizes the design of the rooftop park and water management system for the Transbay Transit Center in San Francisco. The rooftop park aims to be a fully inhabitable public space with open lawns, botanical planting, seating areas, children's play areas, and more. The water system was designed to reduce potable water usage by over 60% through graywater reuse, stormwater capture and detention, and water-efficient irrigation and fixtures. The system sets a new precedent for commercial building water reuse and has implications for reducing infrastructure costs and increasing sustainability in Silicon Valley.
The document discusses the infrastructure assets of a large metropolitan water provider. It details the treatment plants, distribution system, dams and reservoirs, and Colorado River Aqueduct. Billions have been spent to replace aging infrastructure. Charts show historical and planned capital improvement spending, with most funds going to infrastructure reliability projects. Due to lower water sales, the 5-year capital plan was reduced by $156 million by deferring some capacity projects. Upgrades focus on maintaining critical treatment and delivery systems.
The NCARNG has 94 aging facilities across the state with an average age of 47 years. The NCARNG is developing an installation strategic plan and MILCON strategy to address critical unit readiness, training, and DSCA support requirements. This includes plans for new regional readiness centers, renovations, and infrastructure projects. However, challenges include a lack of state matching funds, insufficient NGB funding, and using state construction procedures which increase project timelines.
Vizag Steel has implemented extensive water conservation and recycling measures to reduce water consumption. Total water recycling is over 155,494 cubic meters per hour with make-up water needs of only 3,750 cubic meters per hour. Various projects have been implemented since 2004 to reduce water usage, such as recycling blowdown water, installing ultra filters, repairing pipelines, and modifying cooling systems. These projects have resulted in annual water savings of over 4 million cubic meters and costs recovered in under 3 years. Vizag Steel's specific water consumption of 2.33 cubic meters per ton of liquid steel is lower than other major steel producers. Further schemes are planned to achieve zero discharge of water.
The proposal outlines plans for a 4MW wind farm project for Mountain View Electric Association consisting of 6 GE 2.5MW wind turbines with an average output of 35,000 MWh per year and a maximum output of 15MW. Country of origin labelling (COOL) aims to provide transparency around where foods originate from but its implementation is complex. COOL regulations differ between countries and can be challenging for food businesses to comply with due to globalized supply chains. While COOL does not directly relate to food safety, adhering to its rules helps ensure strong traceability systems. There is ongoing debate around the costs and benefits of COOL for both consumers and businesses.
This document provides tips to help organizations improve their performance on food safety audits by addressing common non-conformances. It identifies the top five non-conformances found in audits as building fabric, housekeeping/hygiene, contamination, HACCP systems, and maintenance/pest control. It then provides specific recommendations in each of these areas to help organizations identify and address potential issues before an audit. The tips include conducting regular inspections of facilities focusing on building integrity, reviewing cleaning procedures and pest control plans, and ensuring HACCP plans and related documentation are up to date. The goal is for organizations to proactively identify and resolve issues in order to minimize non-conformances during audits.
Undeclared allergens continue to be a major challenge in the global food industry due to complex supply chains and changing consumer habits. Allergens can contaminate foods at many stages of production from farms to packaging. Strict management practices are needed to control for allergens, including accurate labeling and segregating allergenic and non-allergenic production areas, but contamination risks remain. Emerging issues like new "free from" product demands and packaging that is not easily distinguishable further complicate allergen management. Vigilant monitoring of all supply chain participants is key to reducing the risk of unexpected allergens in foods.
The document discusses the importance of developing a strong food safety and quality culture within food businesses. It states that a good culture can improve productivity, quality, reduce costs and provide competitive advantages. It identifies several key requirements for establishing a strong culture, including senior management commitment, clear strategies and policies, defined roles, integrated teams, training, measurements, and adapting to changes. The document emphasizes that culture requires constant attention and commitment to develop and maintain.
This document discusses food fraud, which is the intentional adulteration, dilution, substitution, mislabeling, theft or counterfeiting of food for financial gain. It can harm consumers and damage brands. Assessing threats and vulnerabilities is challenging due to a lack of industry knowledge and standardized methodologies. Controls must be implemented to minimize risks, but prioritizing threats can be difficult and detection is not always possible. Ongoing resources are needed to continually monitor for new risks in a complex global supply chain.
How Companies Can Engage Customers by Using Social Plastic in Product Packagi...marcus evans Network
David Katz, founder and CEO of Plastic Bank, believes that companies can engage customers and gain a competitive advantage by using recycled plastic called Social Plastic in product packaging. Plastic Bank creates a global recycling network that empowers communities to exchange plastic waste for goods and services, thereby lifting people out of poverty. Katz states that companies must play a role in environmental cleanup or they will lose business due to shifting consumer demands. Using Social Plastic allows companies to authentically participate in the circular economy and engage stakeholders through transparency into the social impact of the recycled material.
Sustainable Product Packaging in Europe Today - Simo Heljanko & Mårten Karlss...marcus evans Network
The summary discusses sustainable product packaging in Europe. It says that Europe needs to improve its recycling system since China has stopped accepting plastic waste. By 2030 all packaging must contain recycled materials. New recycled plastic and bio-based materials from sugar cane can be used but are currently more expensive. However, their prices should drop with increased competition and consumer demand for sustainable options. Companies may also redesign packages to use less materials to cut costs and plastic usage.

22. Eagle River SCADA Functional Narrative
DATE / TIME: 9/24/2010 – Revised = 8/31/2011
PROGRAMMER: Yet to be determined.
EQUIPMENT: Soda Ash Feed System – project #00000004837
INTENDED FUNCTION: The Control of the Soda Ash System locally from Panel view
and remotely from SCADA terminals.
1. Local control for mix and feeding of solution.
2. Touch screen interface will allow control in auto and manual of system
2 T h i t f ill ll t l i t d l f t
components including: Mixing system, Transfer Pumps, and Feed Pumps.
3. Prefer AB 1250 Panelview touch screen HMI.
4. Remote SCADA control from the “Control Room” will be needed for chemical feed
pump speed in % speed and/or dosage in mg/L, but not mixing functions.
Mixing only needs local control.
5. Solution Feed Pump Control from the control room should be Auto/Off, not Hand.
Setpoint Screen
Feed Pump control can be done in a similar fashion to the virtual control panels found
in our Set point screen for existing chemical feed equipment.
The feed control function requires a flow input and some programming calculations to
generate proper control functions. Graphic control faceplate should show the following:
Dosage Setpoint in mg/L (operator setpoint)
Actual Dosage in mg/L (target vs actual)
pH setpoint in SU (operator setpoint)
Actual pH – (from bld 3 instrument input)
Pounds of soda ash per batch/tank (operator entered)
Max feed rate in gal/hr (operator entered)
Min feed rate in gal/hr (operator entered)
Solution Strength in % by wt (Calculated by scada from pounds of soda ash and tank
size)
Output Gal/Hr – process variable (output signal)
Feed Tank Level – in inches and Gallons (from tank level instrument)
Buttons on Control faceplate – Manual (%), Dosage Mode, pH Mode, Off. Similar to
existing setup for Sodium Hypochlorite. % feed setpoint pops up when Manual is
activated.
23. Soda Ash System Screen – Graphical display of system
Since this system is to be located in the RAS Room, there will need to be some
y ,
modification to the existing RAS Room graphic.
Relocation of the Sample Pump icons will give space for a soda ash mixing system
graphic.
A separate popup to show all the equipment in the system will be required.
p p p p q p y q
An attachment will be distributed with this document showing proposed equipment
configuration (as well as P&ID) that can be used to develop a system graphic.
Data needed on the screen is as follows:
1.
1 Lbs of Soda Ash per batch (dry) - % concentration of solution as well.
well
2. Red/Green bullet indicators for equipment on or off. – like other equipment in
our system
3. Indication of state only needed for dry feed auger, mixers, etc.
4. % speed of feed pumps – process variable.
5.
5 Tank Levels need to be shown in inches and gallons.
gallons
Control is needed on the screen as follows:
1. Pump popup faceplate with H/O/A and Pump % speed input for Hand mode.
Include the same faceplate as in setpoint screen for this system.
p p y
Historian Data to collect - will be reported in WIMS.
1. Lbs of soda ash used/day
2. The gallons of Solution Fed Each day.
3. Dose of Soda Ash Fed – Average for day at each injection point – based on pump
RPM, Concentration of solution, and flows for each injection point. RAS Dosage, and
Final Effluent Dosage.
24. Alarms in SCADA – (Supplier will provide alarm list of available alarms,
sometime)
1. Low Effluent pH
2. Low Soda Ash Solution Feed Tank Level
3. Soda Ash Solution Feed Pump Failure
4. Soda Ash Mix System Failure
5. Dry Soda Ash Hopper Level Low.
6. SAS Dosage Low
7. SAS Batch Tank Low Level, if available.
,
System Testing Plan – (Once the factory representative is ready to complete
the startup testing)
1. Confirm all available alarms – locally and in SCADA
2. Run each system component in local hand to confirm proper operation.
3. Test Dry Feed Batching equipment – weigh amount of soda ash per batch at
different settings to confirm proper calibration.
4.
4 Run system batching of solution in Auto mode – confirm all component functions
functions.
5. Confirm proper Mix and Auto transfer of solution into feed tank.
6. Check pumping rate of feed pumps in manual and auto mode – confirm they are
consistent between pumps and modes of operation.
7.
7 Confirm dosing of soda ash solution through SCADA control.
control
8. Test flow proportional adjusting of dosing rate of feed pumps.
25. Trends in SCADA
1. Feed Rate in Gal/Hr
2. pH of Filter Effluent
3. Dosage in mg/l
4. Feed Rate in #’s per day of dry Soda Ash.
