Wether you're dabbling with Drupal on the side, or using it as a professional, you're not alone. There are many Drupal lovers like you. There's a community! It's this awesome group of people who are building, maintaining, discussing, writing about,... Drupal. The Drupal community is a cool place to be involved in. But how does one get started? Where does one begin? There are so many aspects and the Drupal project is so large. It's not easy to dive in and contribute.
In this session, I'll introduce you to some of the more practical aspects of how to hit it off in the community. I'll be talking about questions such as:
What is the Drupal community?
Where do I find other Drupal minded people?
How does one contribute Drupal modules & themes?
What is the Issue queue? How do I use the issue queue to my and your benefit?
How can I contribute to Drupal core?
What are the benefits of combining community & company?
...
Matthias has been involved with Drupal since version 5 back in 2008. He's been living Drupal ever since. He tries to contribute code, issues & knowledge on a regular basis.
You're definitely a Drupal rockstar! But you don't know it. Yet. Attending DrupalCamp might be you're first step to fame and glory.
Making the Switch, Part 1: Top 5 Things to Consider When Evaluating DrupalAcquia
The “Making the Switch to Drupal series” will provide an overview of what you need to know when considering and adopting Drupal. In Part 1, we will guide busy managers through what they need to consider when evaluating Drupal.
We know that choosing any web development technology represents a significant investment of resources. Decision makers can spend weeks and months comparing options and deliberating about the best direction. We will use a combination of case studies and demonstrations to explain how Drupal works, so you can see first hand how it powers some of the most visited websites online.
In Part 1 of this webinar series, you will learn:
• Benefits of the open source community
• Comparison of Drupal to other systems
• Ease of Customization of branding and functionality
• Managing content layout and design in Drupal
• About common features and functionality of Drupal
Breaking Down the Wall: Teaching Teens About Technology at the Chattanooga Pu...Justin Hoenke
(This presentation was given with Engage3D Education Director James McNutt at the Fall Tenn-Share Conference in Nashville, TN on 9/20/13)
In July 2013, fifty teens gathered on the 2nd Floor of the Chattanooga Public Library for four weeks to learn HTML, CSS, Python, and how to program robots in a program called DEV DEV:<summer />.
It all started with a conversation in May 2013 between the Chattanooga Public Library, AIGA Chattanooga, and Engage 3D. The goal was to develop a technology/coding program for teens ages 12 – 18 that highlighted the importance of living in Chattanooga, one of a few cities in the Western hemisphere connected to a fiber optics network providing high speed gigabit internet access. Over the course of one month, the project quickly came together as a four week long camp developed by the library, Engage 3D, and AIGA Chattanooga with funding made possible by The Benwood Foundation, a private foundation in Chattanooga, Tennessee seeking to stimulate creative and innovative efforts to build and strengthen the Chattanooga community.

Mojo.js is a JavaScript framework for building Single Page Applications, or static websites in Node.js. It's inspired by Angular.js, Derby.js, Knockout.js, Meteor.js, Ember.js, jQuery, Backbone.js, and many other JavaScript, and non-JavaScript frameworks. Much of the design was inspired by Backbone.js, and Node.js. The core is small, while third-party modules allow you to customize Mojo depending on your requirements. Mojo was built initially to phase out old code, and itself - hence the modularity. The philosophy behind Mojo is to allow you to build on top of your old code base, and slowly strangle out your old application until you have a new, highly maintainable application.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
