Kevin A. Carter is the Senior Director, Diversity and Inclusion
(D&I) for Ahold USA and its operating companies, and is the
Founder of Inclusion Innovates.
The Ahold USA D&I strategy is premised on the notion that the
diversity of the Company’s associate is an incredible asset to gain
insights to better serve its customers and neighbors. Fostering
business resource groups and networks, utilizing collaborative
(social) technology, and improving cultural competence are the
three enablers of this strategy which he calls D&I 3.0 or Disruptive Inclusion.
Disruptive Inclusion is about proactive recognition and embracing of both the similarities and
differences in people with a clear objective of improving organizational environments,
individual motivation, and ultimately business innovation. Disruptive Inclusion is a conscious
and deliberate effort to inject and foster difference into a team work environment for business
results.
Kevin is also the founder of Inclusion Innovates, blogs on Inclusion
to Innovation, and is the chair of the Diversity Metrics Workgroup
of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) Diversity
Standards Taskforce. These initiatives are developing standards
and the "new normal" within the diversity and inclusion field.
Kevin has served on several boards including the National
Association of Securities Professionals (NASP), chaired the 1999
NASP Pension Fund Conference, chaired Kaleidoscope Magazine in Cleveland, Ohio from 1995
to 2000 and served as Bureau Chief of the Rainbow/PUSH Cleveland Ninth Street Project which
sparked the creation of the Cleveland Commission on Economic Inclusion.
Mr. Carter holds a BA, Cum Laude in Philosophy and Public Affairs from Vanderbilt University
and an MBA in Finance from the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of
Management. He has been recognized as one of Diversity MBA Magazine’s Top 100 Executives
Under 50 and Crain’s Cleveland 40 under 40 Club, received fellowships from the German
Marshall Memorial Fund and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and is a recipient of the NBMBAA H.
Naylor Fitzhugh Award of Excellence.
On a personal note, Kevin has been married to Geraldine (Gigi) Carter for more than fifteen
years. Gigi serves as the Continuous Improvement Leader, Engineering, for Eaton Aerospace
Group and is a Six Sigma Black Belt. Kevin credits Gigi for having a significant impact on how he
approaches the field of diversity. The couple has three Bull Terriers: Malcolm, Maya and Bree
and has led the creation of Bree’s Bark Park.
