This document provides instructions for installing and using the Tamil language in Kubuntu 9.04. It outlines the steps to: 1. Install the Tamil language package using the apt-get command. 2. Select Tamil as the language in the regional and language settings. 3. Enable typing in Tamil and set the keyboard layout. 4. Translate application strings to Tamil by downloading translation files, editing them in Poedit, and copying the translated files to the system to display the applications in Tamil.

2. Kubuntu 9.04
How to install Tamil Language Package :
$ sudo apt­get install language­pack­kde­ta
Type this command in Konsole ...
1. Select “ System Seetings “ From Kubuntu Menu

3. 2. Select “ Regional & Language “
3. Select Tamil Language
4. Now Everything in Tamil

4. 5. How to enable Tamil Type Writing
6. Select " India "

5. 7. Move India towards Right Side
8. Select Layout

6. 9. Move " India " towards Up

7. 10. Set Shortcut to change Global Tamil Font to English Font & Vice Versa

8. Select Tamil From that

Select “ Extrangear­Multimedia “

9. Right Click On Our Application Name ( Amarok ) and Click on “ Save Link As
“ and Save that into our folder with default extension as . pot

10. Save that extension . Pot file as . Po extension file

11. Installation Poedit
$ sudo apt­get install poedit
Open poedit

12. Open . po file ( eg : Open amarok.po )
Amarok Player in English Strings

13. Opened . po file in Poedit
Select English Strings and Type Corresponding Meaningful Stings in Tamil

14. Use Symbols as it is ( for eg: & , % , + , Numericals , etc )

15. Convert all Strings into Tamil and finally Click Save Button.
By default it will create . mo extention file in that same folder.
Copy this . mo file ( amarok.mo ) into
/usr/share/locale­langpack/ta/LC_MESSAGES/

$ sudo cp amarok.mo /usr/share/locale­langpack/ta/LC_MESSAGES/
Now Open that application , ( here open amarok )
Now we can see our application in Tamil String which was typed by us .

17. Same Procedure , we can follow to change english strings to all other
languges ...
