This document summarizes a new study assessing oral complications in patients with systemic sclerosis. The study evaluated 51 systemic sclerosis patients using the Mouth Handicap in Systemic Sclerosis (MHiSS) scale and measured the distance between their front teeth. It found the average MHiSS score was 24.73, and the average inter-incisor distance was 29.65mm. Disease duration since the onset of Raynaud's phenomenon correlated significantly with increased mouth handicapping. The results indicate oral examinations and the MHiSS scale can help evaluate oral abnormalities that are common and impact quality of life in systemic sclerosis patients.
