What are the different figures of speech?
2. Simile -
A simile is the the comparison of two objects, with one being powerless and
the other being strong.
Example- As soft as a mother’s love
The simile in the above sentence is the “as”. They are comparing the
unknown object as being as soft as a mother’s love.

3. Metaphor-
A metaphor is a concept based on an analogy based on metaphorical meaning.
Example: Shine as bright as a star
The metaphor here is saying that someone should shine as bright as a star.
There no possible way for someone to do so, hence the use of the metaphor is
there to emphasize how great one must do.
Example:
4. Personification-
Personification is the act of giving human qualities to non-human objects.
Example: The fire danced like a newly wedded bride
There is no literal way that a fire can dance but the personification is used to
add emphasize how wild or subtle the fire was.
Example:
5. Hyperbole-
Hyperbole is the act of overemphasizing or making an idea much smaller than
it actually it.
Example: The baby screamed the house down with its cries.
There is obviously no literal way in which a baby could scream a house down,
so one uses hyperbole as a way to emphasize how impactful an action was.
Example:
6. Onomatopoeia-
Onomatopoeia is the act of sounding out words as you write. In other words,
onomatopoeia is draws inspiration from the sounds of living things, especially
in nature.
Example: There is clicking coming from the roof.
There is no literal way of the roof clicking, so the use of this figure of speech
is to emphasize the sounds being heard.
Example:
7. Alliteration-
Alliteration is the occurrence of the same letter or sound in the beginning of
everything word in a sentence or words.
Example: Fiona finally faced her fear of flies
The constant sound and use of the letter “f” the alliteration.
