Global climate change is causing several health impacts:
- The greenhouse effect is trapping heat and causing sea levels to rise, melting glaciers. Sea levels have risen 3.2 mm in 2013 and are predicted to be 7 feet higher by 2100, flooding coastal cities.
- Increased carbon dioxide and other pollutants from vehicles and power plants are exacerbating respiratory illnesses, especially in children and seniors.
- Ocean acidification from absorbed carbon dioxide is damaging shells and skeletons of aquatic organisms.
- Floods spread water-borne and vector-borne diseases like typhoid, cholera, malaria and dengue through contaminated water and increased mosquito breeding grounds.
- Smart road initiatives using solar and wind energy and
GEOGRAPHY IGCSE: ENVIRONMENT -FOSSIL FUELS AND GREENHOUSE GASESGeorge Dumitrache
GEOGRAPHY IGCSE: ENVIRONMENT -FOSSIL FUELS AND GREENHOUSE GASES. It contains: fossil fuels and atmosphere, carbon gases, greenhouse effect and global warming, CO2, how the greenhouse effect works, CFC, implications of global warming.
GEOGRAPHY IGCSE: ENERGY - FOSSIL FUELS. It contains: resources, renewable and non renewable resources, impact on the environment, wood, biomass, coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear energy.
Acid rainfall made so acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environmental harm, chiefly to forests and lakes. The main cause is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulphur and nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water to form acids.

Sustainable development (WATER POLLUTION)Abdul Qayum
Safe water and adequate sanitation are indispensable for healthy ecosystems, reducing poverty, and achieving inclusive growth, social well and being and sustainable livelihoods.
The presentation analyses the causative factors, phenomenon and effects of global warming and tries to find answers to this perplexing problem facing mankind
Here's a powerpoint I created some time ago on Sustainability of Water and Wastewater provisions ~ presented to a Company in UK.
It may be of use or interest to someone and is a downloadable document ~ references are all cited and photo's I think are all creative commons or referenced :-)

Global Warming is the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This is a type of greenhouse effect.
2. Greenhouse effect
• Accumulated carbon dioxide around the
earth blocks heat waves from escaping
the earth.
• melt glaciers and sea level increases.
• Sea water level was increased 3.2 mm
in 2013.
• Climate scientists predict that the sea
level will be 7 feet higher by 2100.
• Many coastal cities will be flooded.
3. Respiratory Illnesses
• Carbon dioxide and other chemical from
cars can cause respiratory illnesses to
people, especially children and seniors
are vulnerable to air pollution.
4. Oil Depletion
• Petroleum cars and oil plants
emit carbon dioxide.
• Petroleum demands will surpass
the supply in 2015
5. Ocean Acidification
• Carbon Dioxide dissolves calcium
carbonate which is the one of
substances in the shells and skeletons
of aquatic organisms.
• When acidification level surpasses
aquatic organisms’ range of tolerance,
aquatic organisms will die and mankind
will lose many things that related to
natural sea organisms.
6. Floods
They can kill or traumatize
living organisms by
drowning.
They can increase water-
borne or vector-borne
communicable disease
infection.
7. Water-borne diseases
Typhoid fever, Cholera,
Leptospirosis and Hepatitis
A
Floods spread rodents’
urine in the soil.
Floods contaminate
drinking water facilities
8. Vector-borne diseases
Malaria, dengue and dengue
haemorrhagic fever, yellow
fever, and West Nile Fever
Floods serve breeding sites for
infectious disease causing
mosquitos.
9. Smart Roads with sustainable
energy
• Solar panels can be installed on the
road and wind turbines can be
installed on the middle of street lights.
• Solar panels will collect solar energy
on sunny days and wind turbines will
generate energy from the high speed
vehicles.
• The gathered energy can be used on
street lights, signals, cameras and
censors.
10. Canal Transportation
• Ships emit less carbon dioxide than
trucks.
• A cargo ship emits 10 grams to 40
grams of carbon dioxide per 1 kilometer
and a cargo truck emits 60 grams to 150
grams of carbon dioxide per 1 kilometer.
• water bridges can store sea water into
the lands and use it for transportation
without flooding the coastal cities.
11. Electric cars & Electric Car
Charging Lanes
• When we use electric cars,
we can reduce carbon dioxide
emission.
• One of Japanese automobile
company is expanding
electric charging
infrastructures.
• Highways can become
wireless electric chargers.
• If we install wireless energy
transmitters under the car
lanes, electronic cars with
energy receivers can be
charged while driving on
highways.
