Two hikers, Monika and the narrator, find themselves lost in the hot desert in Utah's Escalante State Park after following an inept trekking group. With no water left and no idea where they are, Monika fears they may die of dehydration or be harmed by snakes, scorpions or a storm. After walking in circles and trying different directions, Monika convinces the narrator to walk due south in hopes of hitting the road. They are eventually rescued by a passing driver who offers them a lift out of the "crazy landscape".

Our Summer Vacation

Icefields Pkwy Part 2
The rider takes a motorcycle trip along the Icefields Parkway between Saskatchewan Crossing and Jasper, Alberta. Along the way, they stop to admire scenic views like the Weeping Wall and Sunwapta Pass. At the Columbia Icefield, they learn about but do not have time to tour the glaciers. They continue on to Jasper, arriving after nightfall and staying at the budget-friendly Athabasca Hotel.
SUP Adventure in Big Sur, California
This is the article that was written by the good people over at Canoe & Kayak Magazine for their new SUP Magazine.
I was asked to help them organize a SUP trip on the Central Coast. What better place to do that than the Big Sur Coast.
Accompanied by the crew from Canoe & Kayak Mag and my friend Fletcher Burton this trip had everything. From trying to figure out where to actually put in with all the gear required for a multi trip SUP paddling adventure, to actually standing on a dead blue whale (NOT advisable!), to finding perfect 2-4 foot waves amidst the incredible scenery of rocky caves and alcoves.

The story unfolds in Fiji in 1944 on the arrival of the American military—who were there to protect the islands from the Japanese if there was an invasion.
James describes that day vividly, his friendship with the Americans that follow and the day he was taken away by Catholic Missionaries, baptized and educated towards priesthood.
Brought up by nuns, the boy robs the church of communion wafers and wine as well as a few shillings of the collection plate—to satisfy his constant hunger.
Later, another kind of hunger arises as the teenager falls in love with a young and beautiful white Australian orphan.
The passion that follow between the two teenagers gives him a tantalizing taste of lust for sex. He continues his quest for sexual discovery with a number of convent school girls—fast switching from student to teacher.
At an early age of seventeen James is lured by money to get him out of poverty and on his way to England to fulfill his life long ambition. He enters the boxing ring as a prize-fighter and some how manages to leave Fiji.
On his way he travels to Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, and New Zealand, demonstrating his inexhaustible energy in an out of bed with world wind affairs and orgies with beautiful native women—where his imagination and lust run wild. Here he indulges into the wildest fantasies, which is explained in tasteful—yet explicit detail.
From New Zealand he embarks on a veritable ‘love boat’ type of a cruise on a passage to England. On board this luxurious ship he meets some high-spirited teenage Dutch girls—with liberal ideas of teenage sex.
Whatever takes place between the liberal minded girls from Rotterdam on the high seas, has to be left to the reader’s own imagination.
After a five weeks journey on a floating paradise James finally arrives in England at the height of ‘make love and not war’ sixties flower power era. What could be more fitting; he finds employment in Liverpool and frequents the ‘Cavern Club’ where he meets John, Paul. George and Pete Best, the first drummer of the up and coming rock band the Beatles.
Here young James is in his elements. His Hindu guru like features is embraced by the flower children and the free love if the sixties has begun.

- 1. "Are we going to die?” asked Monika, her bottom lip quivering. Her water bottle released not a drop. I looked around. We were standing in the hot sand of a seasonal riverbed. Dry brush and sun-smashed rocks glared all about. The temperature was about 85 degrees. We were somewhere beyond Spooky and Peekaboo slot canyons, off the end of Hole in the Rock Road in Utah’s Escalante State Park. And we were hopelessly lost. “Probably,” I replied. We did have a compass and a map. Both, however, were useless because we had no idea where we were. There was no possibility of taking a reverse bearing from a geographical feature – the only feature was baking sand. It had started so well. We had steered our rental car along miles of juddering washboard track to the trailhead. We had explored Spooky and Peekaboo – phenomenal geological crevices that weave and twist through rock in tortuous convolutions until they are so narrow that you are forced to walk sideways, stone scraping front and rear, staring up at glimpses of brilliant blue. Our mistake? We had followed a guided trekking group out. We recognised them from our campsite and they looked like they were serious. “Just follow them,” we thought, “and we’ll be back at the trailhead in no time.
