This presentation discusses genetically modified (GM) foods and their potential risks to human health. It begins with an overview of what GM means and some common examples. It then discusses potential health risks identified by the WHO and animal studies showing worrying effects in rats fed GM maize. The presentation concludes that while no data definitively shows GM is harmful, more research is still needed given the lack of long-term safety testing and animal study results. Food labelling regulations in the EU are also addressed.
