John Steinbeck was born on February 27, 1902 in Salinas, California. He had three sisters and married three times, having two sons with his second wife. Steinbeck graduated from Salinas High School and attended Stanford University before leaving in 1925 to pursue writing in New York. He authored numerous acclaimed works including Cup of Gold, The Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice and Men. Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1962 and donated his medal to Stanford University before passing away in 1968 from heart failure.
