This document provides instructions for a social studies journal assignment. Students are asked to write a one page entry in their own words on one of several topics by September 14th. They can do additional research using books, the internet or other sources. However, they must summarize the information learned in their own words. The topics include prejudice, the Hindu Kush mountains, sacred cows in India, Buddha, and the concept of ahimsa. Students are also asked to make a collage for the journal cover related to their chosen topic.

JOURNAL ENTRIES – THIRD PARTIAL
Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by September 14th. Write down a whole page, without skipping a line, and using
your own words.
If you must do some research, use books, internet or any other means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.
Collage:
Choose one of the topics below and make a collage with pictures related to it as a cover
of the journal from this partial.
Prejudice
o Have you ever been influenced by prejudice? Did you judge someone
or something without knowing it/them? Or have you ever seen
somebody do that. Write about your personal experiences with it!
Hindu Kush
o Do some research about this very important range. Find out what is
its importance, or any other historical facts about these mountains.
Use your own words.
Holy Cow!
o Why are cows so revered in India? Why does Indian culture respect
them so much?
Buddha
o Besides being depicted on statues as a well-fed man, what else can
we say about him? Do some research on his life to see why his ideas
were so revolutionary and still in practice today. Use your own
words.
Ahimsa
o After we studied this concept in class, write what you think about it
and the people who applied it to their lives in order to achieve their
goals.
