                   JOURNAL ENTRIES – SECOND PARTIAL

Below you will find the Journal entries corresponding to the second partial. It must be
ready by June 11th. Write down a whole page, skipping a line, and using your own
words.

If you must do some research, use books, internet or whatever means you may find, but
remember, that you must write down everything using your own words. Use the facts
found during the research to make your writing more vivid. Use the guidelines given
below, for every entry to have a better idea on what you may write about.

   • Columbus
Imagine you are Columbus. You have no money, only fame and skill as a
navigator. Try to convince the kings of Spain to give some spare change to make
the trip around the world to the Indies by writing a letter to them. You must
        sound very convincing!

   • Tainos
Imagine you are a Taino, and it is the first time you see some Spaniards. What is
your first impression? What do you think of them? They talk a different
language, they look and talk different and they have many new things you have
        never seen before.

   • Enlightenment Ideals
Read the main Ideals of the Enlightenment and think about them. Afterwards
write about how life would be today if we didn’t have these principles.

   • Sucre
Our former currency was named after him, but he was born in Venezuela! Find
out why he is so admired and respected in Ecuador, and write if you agree with
our admiration towards him, using your own words to describe him too.

   • Toussaint Louverture
He was a Haitian nationalist. He was black and highly educated. Find out more
about his past, and write your own personal opinion of why he wasnot the
stereotype of nationalists in Latin America.
