Joseph Estrada served as the 13th President of the Philippines from 1998 until 2001. He was popularly known as "ERAP" and began his career as a film actor, starring in over 100 movies. As President, Estrada faced an economic crisis due to the Asian Financial Crisis and poor weather affecting agriculture. He aimed to improve the economy by privatizing government corporations and reducing unemployment, inflation, and the fiscal deficit while increasing export growth. However, Estrada clamped down on press freedom and was ultimately ousted in 2001 through the EDSA Revolution.
