3. Origin
In 1898 an American Battleship was destroyed in the port of Havana,
which caused the death of 260 officers on board. Because of this
America declared war against Spain, and invaded Puerto Rico and Cuba
and captured them. Eventually America let Cuba go, but sadly the same
cannot be said for Puerto Rico. The United States saw life on Puerto
Rico as “uncivilized” and decided it was in our best interest to become
more like the US. So they changed the island’s native language to
English and changed their school systems to include American Values.
4. Current State
As of now, Puerto Rico is constantly suffering from power outages
everyday because of the company that runs the power grid on the
island. The company was put in place by America, before that Puerto
Rico had its own power grid system that worked better then its current
one. Puerto Rican are also suffering from a lack of job opportunities,
low salary, and extremely high prices on everything out there.
Because of this, many Puerto Ricans flee the island and come to the
states so that they can make enough money to survive. Not to mention
San Juan is among the top 50 most deadliest cities in the world.
5. Data
Here is a graph showing how before the US
Took control, many Puerto Ricans stayed on
the island. Now there are 3.426 Million Puerto
Ricans here because of all the issues going on
in Puerto Rico caused by America.

9. My solution
Let Puerto Rico become it’s own country! It will be hard for the country
to build up their own economy, but once they are able to build it, live
will be so much better for the islanders.
