Platform changes were announced in November 2009. Notifications will now be replaced by counters, emails, and messages to reduce spam from unused apps. Stream stories must be explicitly shared by users through buttons or checkboxes to get permission before posting. Developers need high quality, engaging content in stream stories to increase engagement and pageviews rather than just numerous low-quality stories.
