Joshua Stepney is seeking a position as a guidance counselor or in the human services field. He graduated from Frostburg State University with honors with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology in 2013 and a Master's degree in Education with a focus on school counseling in 2015. Throughout his time at Frostburg State, he held several roles helping students such as an undergraduate learning assistant and lab assistant that allowed him to develop skills in empathy, reliability, and trustworthiness. He completed over 600 hours of internships at local schools to gain experience in teaching and counseling. I am currently seeking a position as a guidance counselor or a job in the Human Service
field. There are several of things that can describe me, but hardworking, determined, and
dedicated are the best three descriptive words for me. With the help of my strong support
networks I have built, I have graduated at Frostburg State University (FSU) with a Bachelor’s of
Science in Psychology (May, 2013) with honors and with a Master’s of Science in Education,
with a focus in school counseling (August, 2015) with honors. From all the different experiences
I have gained at Frostburg State University, I found that I loved to help students prosper and
thrive academically, socially, and personally throughout their lives. I want the chance with your
organization to help and mentor students to become the best person they can be and help them
build lifelong skills and habits, which will help them succeed in life.
Since I am effective, efficient, and charismatic individual, I believe that I would be asset
to the company. For a guidance counselor, being able to be empathetic, reliable, and trustworthy
is a must. Throughout my career at Frostburg State University, I was able to hone these skills as
an Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA), PSYC 150 Lab Assistant, Developmental
Mathematics Lecture Assistant, Peer Mentor, Peer Assisted Learner, and a Student Assistant in
the Programs Advancing Student Success (PASS) office. Also, as part of my graduate program, I
have had the pleasure of interning for more 600 hours at South Penn Elementary, Northern
Middle School, and Fort Hill High School, all of which, I have gained informational insight on
the teaching and counseling aspect of public school systems. With the skills I possessed, it was
always enjoyable task to help people cope with their problems as they arose.
Over the last 4 years at Frostburg State University, I was able to be a peer mentor for
FSU’s Introduction to Higher Education and On Course course. In these courses, I helped
students make a successful transition from high school to college, by helping them explore ways
critical thinkers. With these courses, I was able to advise, manage grades, and interact
successfully with college students to make their first year of college a successful one. Also, we
taught students the importance of interdependence, study skills, and time management skills, all
of which, is necessary to have a successful college career and life. Along with teaching these
courses, over the last 2 years, I have been an active volunteer with the Salvation Army. In this
time, I was able to successfully advocate for a $500 grant to help fund our annual FunFest, which
helped create and foster a sense of unity within Southern Cumberland community.
I would love to have the chance to show your company what I have to offer them. With
my life experiences, strong work ethic, and my passion for helping people, I believe that I would
