 To enter ;subjected in entrance
 exam on Christian Doctrine,
 reading, writing, grammar and
 elementary arithmetic.
 Considered advanced than that of other
  colleges.
 Its discipline was rigid and its method was
  less mechanical.
 Introduced physical culture as part of its
  program as well as cultivation of
  arts, music, drawing and painting.
 Vocational courses in agriculture, commerce
  and mechanics as a religious institute.
 Fr. Jose Bech- Rizal’s first professor, A
  man of high stature.
 Fransisco G. Oliva, Joaquin
  Garrido, Gonzalo Manzano.
 After a month, He attained the
  Emperor.
 The end of the term, He obtained
  marks of excellent in all subjects and
  examinations.
 He went home and tell the good news to his
  mother at the prison.
 2nd year- he resides at no.6 Calle
  Magallanes,.
  -Obtained a medal 3 months before his
  mother’s released.
 3rd year- began to win prizes in the quaterly
  examinations.
 Devoted himself to reading novels:
  - The Sufferings of the Hero for 12 Years
  - The Universal History
 Fr. Fransisco Sanchez- as professor
  -A model of rectitude, a solitude and love
  for students.
 Rizal studied mathematics, rhetoric and
  Greek . And obtained 5 medals.

 Fr. Leoncio Lopez- Parish priest of the
 town., great friend of Rizal’s father.
 -came to know that Jose was a pupil who
 excelled in poetry.
 Fr. Vilaclara and Mineves
- Studied philosophy, physics, chemistry, and
  natural history,
 He also engaged in fencing .
 He also devoted time to painting and
  sculpture.
 He was under the guidance of Ateneo
  professor, Don Agustin Saez.
 He graduated as sobresaliente or
 outstanding , the highest recognition
 in Ateneo.
 Finished a year in Philosophy and
 Letters and decided to shift in Medical
 courses.

 April 1887 – 16 years old, University of
 Santo Tomas, taking Philosophy and
 Letters.
1. His Father wanted him to take the
   course.
2. He was still uncertain to which career
   he would pursue.
1877 -1878 1st term
He studied :
 Cosmology
 Metaphysics
 Theodicy
 History of Philosophy
1878 -1879 –Rizal pursued his
  studies in medicine.
1. He wanted to be a physician so
   that he could cure his mothers
   failing eye sight.
2. Father Pablo Ramos –The father
   Doctor of Ateneo - recommended
   medicine
May 21,1878- at the age of 17, He
 finished his vocational course in
 Surveying in Ateneo.
Agrimenser y perito Tasador
 de Tierras expert surveyer.
The following year he took his
 Pre-medical course called
 Curso de Amplicacion or
 advanced course in
 physics, chemistry and natural
 history.
 Out of 28 young men taking
 Amplicacion only4 including Rizal
 were granted the privileged of taking
 simultaneously the preparatory course
 at the year of medicine.

 Received 4 year practical training in
 medicine at the Hospital de San Juan
 De Dios in Intramuros.
 He use the name Jose Mercado,
  from his cousin in Calamba.
 May 3, 1882- he boarded on
  Salvadora board for Singapore.
 He played chess to kill his boredom
  and always came out victorious .
 He enrolled in Universidad
 Central de Madrid .

 Taking up two courses
1. Philosophy and letters
2. Medicine
June 21, 1884 -conferred the
 degree of Licentiate in
 medicine at Universidad
 Central de Madrid.

Passed all subjects leading to
 Doctor of medicine.
 At the age of 24. He finished his
 studies in Philosophy and Letters at
 higher grade.

 Awarded the Degree of Licentiate in
 Philosophy and Letters by
 Universidad Central de Madrid with
 the rating of excellent.
 Age of 24., went to Paris to acquire more
  knowledge in Ophthalmology.
 He visited his friend Maximo Viola and
  met new friends:
  - Senor Eusebio Conominas- editor of La
  Publicidad.
  - Don Miguel Morayta- owner of
  Publicidad.
 Dr. Louis deWeckett- a leading french
  ophthalmogist.
 He went to Heidelberg ( a historic
  city in Germany)
  - became popular among German
  because he was a good chess player.
 He worked at University Eye Hospital
  under the direction of Dr. Otto, a
  distinguished German
  Ophthalmologist.
 Attended some lectures at the University of
  Leipzig on history and Psychology.
 Befriended : Prof. Friedrich Katzel-
  famous historian
 Dr. Hans Meyer-German Anthropologist.
October 29- went to Dresden and met Dr.
 Adolf B. Meyer, director of the
 Anthological and Ethnological Museum.
 He met Scientist like:
 - Dr. Freador Jagor- German
 scientist., traveller and author of Travel in
 the Philippines.
 -Dr. Rudolf Virchow- famous German
 anthropologist.
 -Dr. W. Joest- German Geographer
 -Dr. Karl Ernest Schweigger- famous
 German Ophthalmologist.
1. To gain further knowledge in
     Ophthalmology.
2.   Further his studies in science and
     language.
3.   To observe the economic and political
     conditions of the German nation.
4.   To associate with famous German
     scientific and scholars.
5.   To publish his novel Noli Me Tangere
 Worked as an assistant in the clinic of
  Dr. Schwiegger.
 He attended classes in the University of
  Berlin and in University of Paris.
 Took private lessons in French under
  Madame Lucie Cerdole.
 He earned a Licentiate in Medicine at
  University Central de Madrid.
 1887- he completed his eye specialization
  course at the University of Heidelberg.
 A well educated person and one who
  can excels in a wide variety of subjects
  or fields.
 28 men in the history., Rizal was the
  most recent and last on the line.
Polymath- ability to master various
 skills and subjects.
 Age of 16- he obtained the Bachelor
 of Arts degree with an average of
 excellent from Ateneo Municipal de
 Manila.

 The subject of the first play is the
  transgression of Prometheus, who brings
  fire to mankind, whereby they become no
  better, and confers on them other
  benefits, as he himself relates to the chorus
  when bound to the rocks.
 This was the play were Rizal was inspired to
  make the sculpture which some how relates
  how Filipino people treats by the Spaniards.

  • 3.  He went to Binan School of Maestro Justiniano Aquino Cruz.  Tio Manuel- taught him the art of wrestling.  Rizal surpassed them all in Spanish, Latin and other subjects.

  • 5.  Ateneo Municipal De Manila.  Jesuits- best educators in Spain.  To enter ;subjected in entrance exam on Christian Doctrine, reading, writing, grammar and elementary arithmetic.
  • 6.  Considered advanced than that of other colleges.  Its discipline was rigid and its method was less mechanical.  Introduced physical culture as part of its program as well as cultivation of arts, music, drawing and painting.  Vocational courses in agriculture, commerce and mechanics as a religious institute.
  • 7.  Fr. Jose Bech- Rizal’s first professor, A man of high stature.  Fransisco G. Oliva, Joaquin Garrido, Gonzalo Manzano.  After a month, He attained the Emperor.  The end of the term, He obtained marks of excellent in all subjects and examinations.
  • 8.  He went home and tell the good news to his mother at the prison.  2nd year- he resides at no.6 Calle Magallanes,. -Obtained a medal 3 months before his mother’s released.  3rd year- began to win prizes in the quaterly examinations.  Devoted himself to reading novels: - The Sufferings of the Hero for 12 Years - The Universal History

  • 10.  Fr. Fransisco Sanchez- as professor -A model of rectitude, a solitude and love for students.  Rizal studied mathematics, rhetoric and Greek . And obtained 5 medals.  Fr. Leoncio Lopez- Parish priest of the town., great friend of Rizal’s father. -came to know that Jose was a pupil who excelled in poetry.
  • 11.  Fr. Vilaclara and Mineves - Studied philosophy, physics, chemistry, and natural history,  He also engaged in fencing .  He also devoted time to painting and sculpture.  He was under the guidance of Ateneo professor, Don Agustin Saez.
  • 12.  He graduated as sobresaliente or outstanding , the highest recognition in Ateneo.
  • 13.  Finished a year in Philosophy and Letters and decided to shift in Medical courses.  April 1887 – 16 years old, University of Santo Tomas, taking Philosophy and Letters.

  • 15. 1877 -1878 1st term He studied :  Cosmology  Metaphysics  Theodicy  History of Philosophy 1878 -1879 –Rizal pursued his studies in medicine.
  • 16. 1. He wanted to be a physician so that he could cure his mothers failing eye sight. 2. Father Pablo Ramos –The father Doctor of Ateneo - recommended medicine
  • 17. May 21,1878- at the age of 17, He finished his vocational course in Surveying in Ateneo. Agrimenser y perito Tasador de Tierras expert surveyer.
  • 18. The following year he took his Pre-medical course called Curso de Amplicacion or advanced course in physics, chemistry and natural history.
  • 19.  Out of 28 young men taking Amplicacion only4 including Rizal were granted the privileged of taking simultaneously the preparatory course at the year of medicine.  Received 4 year practical training in medicine at the Hospital de San Juan De Dios in Intramuros.
  • 20.  He use the name Jose Mercado, from his cousin in Calamba.  May 3, 1882- he boarded on Salvadora board for Singapore.  He played chess to kill his boredom and always came out victorious .
  • 21.  He enrolled in Universidad Central de Madrid .  Taking up two courses 1. Philosophy and letters 2. Medicine
  • 22. June 21, 1884 -conferred the degree of Licentiate in medicine at Universidad Central de Madrid. Passed all subjects leading to Doctor of medicine.
  • 23.  At the age of 24. He finished his studies in Philosophy and Letters at higher grade.  Awarded the Degree of Licentiate in Philosophy and Letters by Universidad Central de Madrid with the rating of excellent.
  • 24.  Age of 24., went to Paris to acquire more knowledge in Ophthalmology.  He visited his friend Maximo Viola and met new friends: - Senor Eusebio Conominas- editor of La Publicidad. - Don Miguel Morayta- owner of Publicidad.  Dr. Louis deWeckett- a leading french ophthalmogist.
  • 25.  He went to Heidelberg ( a historic city in Germany) - became popular among German because he was a good chess player.  He worked at University Eye Hospital under the direction of Dr. Otto, a distinguished German Ophthalmologist.
  • 26.  Attended some lectures at the University of Leipzig on history and Psychology.  Befriended : Prof. Friedrich Katzel- famous historian  Dr. Hans Meyer-German Anthropologist. October 29- went to Dresden and met Dr. Adolf B. Meyer, director of the Anthological and Ethnological Museum.
  • 27.  He met Scientist like: - Dr. Freador Jagor- German scientist., traveller and author of Travel in the Philippines. -Dr. Rudolf Virchow- famous German anthropologist. -Dr. W. Joest- German Geographer -Dr. Karl Ernest Schweigger- famous German Ophthalmologist.
  • 28. 1. To gain further knowledge in Ophthalmology. 2. Further his studies in science and language. 3. To observe the economic and political conditions of the German nation. 4. To associate with famous German scientific and scholars. 5. To publish his novel Noli Me Tangere
  • 29.  Worked as an assistant in the clinic of Dr. Schwiegger.  He attended classes in the University of Berlin and in University of Paris.  Took private lessons in French under Madame Lucie Cerdole.  He earned a Licentiate in Medicine at University Central de Madrid.  1887- he completed his eye specialization course at the University of Heidelberg.

  • 46.  The subject of the first play is the transgression of Prometheus, who brings fire to mankind, whereby they become no better, and confers on them other benefits, as he himself relates to the chorus when bound to the rocks.  This was the play were Rizal was inspired to make the sculpture which some how relates how Filipino people treats by the Spaniards.
