It defines A/B testing as a randomized experiment with two variants, a control and treatment. It explains that almost anything can be A/B tested, from colors and layouts to features, content, and pricing. Both step-by-step and multi-variant testing are covered, along with challenges like requiring large data sets and determining which metrics to focus on. The document provides examples of how A/B testing can be used to test levels, bonuses, content, peer-to-peer assignments, and pricing to improve engagement, retention, and monetization.

- They implemented an A/B test where new users in group B were forced to spend coins on virtual items initially to mimic paying users' experiences.
- The success of this change would be measured by whether group B bought more virtual items and spent more coins, indicating aligning user experiences increased conversion.

This document discusses using mobile games to gather consumer perceptions and market research data. It notes that traditional surveys are declining while mobile app usage is rising. The author proposes using elements from board and parlor games in mobile games to collect data on consumer preferences, descriptions, comparisons and other insights. Several mobile games developed by the author are presented as case studies that provided large sample sizes and demographic representation. Example data from the games is shown relating to charitable donations and brand perceptions, demonstrating the games can reveal consumer attitudes in a way similar to traditional surveys.

Ninja Metrics created the Katana Social Analytics Engine to help companies identify, understand, monetize, and retain their most valuable and influential customers using social graph analysis and predictive analytics. The Katana Engine analyzes social influence within networks to measure a user's "Social Value" and can predict user behavior related to payment, churn, conversion, time spent and more. It provides insights through customizable dashboards and integrates through a REST API.
1) Carbine Studios wanted to identify which of its 125,000 beta testers were most likely to remain long-term players to combat customer churn.
2) Surveys and predictive modeling identified 5 unique gamer segments with different characteristics and spending behaviors.
3) Key insights included that 8% of beta testers were at risk to churn, females were twice as likely to churn, and passion for the game was more important than demographics in predicting loyalty.
Nikolay Novozhilov gave a presentation on common problems with A/B testing and statistics. He discussed how looking at data before testing can invalidate results and showed through a Monte Carlo simulation that variants can appear to "win" just by chance. Multivariate testing and multiple comparisons were also cited as issues. Novozhilov recommended starting with a clear hypothesis, replicating tests, and considering sample size, significance, effect size, and power to obtain more reliable results from A/B tests.

Pitches are more likely to succeed by making the idea intriguing rather than complicated, focusing on benefits for the stakeholder rather than your own efforts, and offering a range of solutions rather than a single idea.

The document provides examples of how predictive analytics can be used to predict player churn rates and lifetime values in order to target retention promotions more effectively. It emphasizes interpreting predictive values based on both the predicted likelihood and the model's accuracy rating.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.

In the realm of cybersecurity, offensive security practices act as a critical shield. By simulating real-world attacks in a controlled environment, these techniques expose vulnerabilities before malicious actors can exploit them. This proactive approach allows manufacturers to identify and fix weaknesses, significantly enhancing system security.
This presentation delves into the development of a system designed to mimic Galileo's Open Service signal using software-defined radio (SDR) technology. We'll begin with a foundational overview of both Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and the intricacies of digital signal processing.
The presentation culminates in a live demonstration. We'll showcase the manipulation of Galileo's Open Service pilot signal, simulating an attack on various software and hardware systems. This practical demonstration serves to highlight the potential consequences of unaddressed vulnerabilities, emphasizing the importance of offensive security practices in safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.

In 2014 we tiered up our user base based on their economic value. We set out SLA’s that were stringent on the top tiers, but realized that there was no way we could keep up with the demand. We have been meeting these SLA’s, but as can be seen from the chart 2015 presents a bigger problem. We have diversified platforms, we are growing at unprecedented rates. This graph shows our expected growth assuming we continue to do as well (i.e. tickets per DAU is a constant) in spite of living in a world where we are now supporting multiple platforms with the onus that that represents on the teams.
Prediction based on previous MAU vs. tickets per month (0.01 ratio) added 20% growth in tickets - Android based on 1.8 release - 2.0 split 2 thirds iPhone vs. 1 third iPad - We originally did this (conservative) prediction in January - However looking at February we are seeing that the forecast of tickets looks to be around 20% higher already
