devices company founded in 1886. It’s a global leader with a long history
of innovation and a strong commitment to social responsibility. Today

History
• Founded in 1886 by three brothers: Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson, and
Edward Mead Johnson.
• Started as a surgical dressing company.
• Diversified into pharmaceuticals and medical devices became a global leader in healthcare
with a presence in over 130 countries.
In 1944, the company began selling
Johnson's Baby Lotion. The same year,
the company established Ethicon Suture
Laboratories. In 1947, G. F. Merson Ltd.
was acquired to expand the company's
suture business in the United Kingdom.
The company was rebranded and
absorbed into Ethicon.

Over view of campaigns
Nurses Rise to the Challenge Every Day (2021): This
campaign aimed to celebrate nurses and the important
work they do, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It included digital and print ads, as well as a $50 million
commitment to supporting frontline healthcare workers .

is designed to inspire people to pursue careers in nursing.
It offers a variety of resources, including videos, articles,

Conclusion
An excellent example of CSR on the frontline is big pharma pioneer Johnson & Johnson. They
have focused on reducing their impact on the planet for three decades. Their initiatives range
from leveraging the power of the wind to providing safe water to communities around the world.
Their purchase of a privately-owned energy supplier in the Texas Panhandle allowed the
company to reduce pollution while providing a renewable, economical alternative to electricity.
The company continues to seek out renewable energy options with the goal of having 100% of its
energy needs from renewable sources by 2025.
