At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, a pressing need
exists for volunteer mentors. Almost 1,000 children
wait at any given time for a mentor, and many must
continue to wait for six months or longer. Big Brothers
Big Sisters works to match these children with caring
adults from all walks of life, from college students to
business executives.

volunteer to learn about his or her interests,
personality, tastes, and background. The
organization then presents the volunteer with
the names and profiles of children that are
likely to connect well with the volunteer, and
each mentor can then select the child that he
or she feels would be the best match. Big
Brothers Big Sisters guides mentors in getting to
know their mentee by suggesting low-cost or
no-cost activities to enjoy together, while
providing coaching to help each Big provide
the best possible guidance to his or her Little.
